This album so far is shit. Sounds way to much like alone. And not like ALLB.

It's the best single so far, but I'm still unsure. I think I'm just gonna have to pretend this isn't an ALLB album when I listen to it.It's the only way I'm gonna have a chance of liking it. My main complaint is that there are hardly any dynamics in the music. I feel it should be building to something.

This is just proof that Joe Arrington is such an amazing drummer he can standout in even an average band. None of the new singles are bad, they just aren't great. :p

It's a shame that the best part of this was over in the first minute or so. As soon as Conor's part was over this good real bad real quick.

I dont mind the genre change, I just fine these songs very slow and boring. Such a shame too, A Lot Like Birds was a great band.

Conor should've had more to do. He slayed it in Common Cold by Tiny Moving Parts.

But yeah, all these new songs are ass. I hate how everybody accuses anyone who dislikes it of being mad they don't scream anymore. It's not that there's no screams, these songs are just boring.

What did people think about Piano Become the Teeth's changes? Just curious.

I don't even remember what Keep You sounded like. Though, I didn't like PBTT even before the change, so I don't know if my opinion counts for much on that note.

@treos, I didn't care much for new PBTT, but it had a couple songs I liked. Most of it was just too washed out and samey, imo. Honestly wasn't a huge fan of the band before the changes anyway, though.

@hotanz, yeah he kills it. Song almost sounded like it was going to be god-tier. I know Foxing would have turned that into a fine piece of work.

@OvDeath I would definitely agree with you and I liked old Pianos a lot.
This reminds me of that change in ways - Keep You worked the best as an album experience - I'm thinking this album will do a similar thing.

Exactly the same as this, in my opinion. A great band absolutely waters their sound down into regurgitated songs that lack any complexity or appeal.

Weird that people all hate it for the reasons that I love it. I think the focus on more standard structures and shying away from needless complexity has done wonders for this band. I previously could not care less for them, but the lack of screams and the much nicer melodic sound with catchy choruses just gets me real good. Same with Pianos Become the Teeth, another band I disliked before Keep You.

I disagree, for the the subject matter that's been repeated constantly, always throughout history, these lyrics are pretty inoffensive. I never paid attention to them until you mentioned them so I read all the lyrics and see absolutely no issue with them.

I'm honestly really loving all these new songs and am surprised by how hyped I am for this album now

I'd honestly even consider the final lyrics to be quite poignant and effectual,

It's an easy take on the conflicting dualities in a relationship that I'm sure a lot of people have felt before. It's not like the lyrics were written by John Darnielle or anything, but they're still on the better end of the spectrum in this style.

Nah, I get that they are fitting, but I just thought the last set in particular were corny. If I'd just gone through something similar, I might be more into it, but even the chorus just feels pretty generic.

For sure it's generic, but not really in a way where I'd get turned off or annoyed. I rarely pay attention to lyrics unless they're either spectacularly good or spectacularly bad. This is indeed very middle of the road, but fitting, and thus doesn't impact my enjoy one way or another.

I find this to be a bit of a nostalgic sound for me though so that may be affecting the way I enjoy this. Very cathartic, I think.

thing is tho Cory was one of the best lyricists in the genre on the previous two albums and now he's middle of the road so naturally we will scrutinise that aspect

I think his lyrics are still better than most I think he still has the issue of labouring a point but like I think the lyrics are still pretty strong the first single especially... however this genre isn't really known for good lyrics at all. (By this genre I mean the more polished side of posthardcore - dgd and what not)

The only lyricists I've ever cared about are John Darnielle, Phil Elverum, John K. Samson, King Diamond and Wil Wagner.

I think King Park is less sympathetic as it is introspective into the killer. Like yeah it tugs on your heart strings but it's because you understand the killers remorse, not because you sympathize with his actions. What he did was terrible to unfathomable extent but there's something interesting about human emotion.

I feel the opposite, it felt like a very poorly written look into the killer's actions and remorse, and very much felt forced. His sudden introspection of death becoming a religious struggle and his seeming indifference to death or even the feelings of others in the scenario were misplaced, as he came across as neither a sociopath or any kind of thinking, feeling being. It was such a conflicting way of portraying a scenario that felt very unreal to me in ways I couldn't connect.

I suppose its definitely "sudden" but if you were in that same scenario those emotions would be very "sudden" as well.

Apparently it's based on a true story though so what do I know, really. I just didn't care much for the song and the vocalist's whiny delivery always sets me on edge.
