Mercyful Fate guitarists reunite

2013-10-28 by Voivod STAFF | 15 Comments
To mark the 30th anniversary since the release of Mercyful Fate's landmark debut Melissa, guitarists Hank Shermann and Michael Denner have recently reunited in Copenhagen, Denmark and played the album in its entirety.

The session has been captured on video tape and it will be released on October 30 in commemoration of an album that opened new ways of expression for metal during the '80s and continues to inspire contemporary traditional metal outfits such as In Solitude, Portrait, Noctum etc.

I hear you. I mean bands such as those mentioned above and labels like Metal Blade are revisiting the MF sound with great success. If they reunite, Metal Blade will sign them in a split second.

@Lloyd

The album adaptation was solely instrumental, at least that's what the blabbermouth piece suggests.

A few years ago, I would agree with you, but there are at least two - to my best of knowledge - singers who imitate King Diamond's lows perfectly. Check the first two In Solitude albums and the recently released Noctum album (there's a stream for the latter).

Thanks Voivod, just made my day!

Shermann and Denner are my favorite guitar duo of all time. Such a great band, and I only got two more albums left to review until I finish reviewing Mercyful Fate's entire discog.

Nice, but a 30th Anniversary gig with King and the original line-up would be better.

^This. I don't think MF fans can accept another vocalist instead of King Diamond. His theatrics and overall influence on MF is extremely important.
