There's no way this isn't going to be at least the best metal album of the year. Unless Gorguts really outdoes themselves.

Agreed 100% I don't pay premium money for my sound system to have my music sound like it did from my
Walkman back in 93.....

I love that people insist that if death metal doesn't have the Morrisound production or something equivalent from the early 90's that it sucks. Sorry, but it's not 1991 anymore and not everyone thinks they should sound like Bolt Thrower, Dismember and Entombed. Entrails still does, but hey.

the production is clean but calling it overproduced is a bit of an exaggeration.

Nothing wrong with the guitars, they're kinda typical modern sound but not bad, main issue is the
plasticky drums which make the blasts sound blegh

Music's pretty good though, still looking forward to this.

Yeah, there's really nothing wrong with the production at all. It's crystal clear and nothing is competing for dominance - which seems to be the problem for most people opposing its sound - that it's not "raw" enough.

Wizard

^^^^^No, there is a huge difference between overproduced and a perfect tone so you can hear the instruments but make it not sound like a robot. Go listen to Heartwork or Necroticism and that's what I'm getting at. Judging by that clip, it shows that Nuclear Blast has taken the reigns and curbed Carcass in a direction that will make them sound squeaky clean just like they did to Suffocation (and killed Suffocation for that matter).

I love the production on Heartwork, but that was also made in 1993 - this is 20 years later and rightfully should sound a bit more modern. Like I said before, there are still bands making death metal records with that old sound, and doing it rather well (Entrails, Funebrarum, Tribulation, etc.) - maybe Carcass simply just didn't want to be one of those bands. It could be a be grittier yeah, a bit more human even, but the album IS called "Surgical Steel" which implies things being razor sharp and clean (at least it does to me anyway). I just don't think this is really as over-produced as people are making it out to be, it's what a 2013 death metal record should sound like to me. I mean, it's not like it's a Dimmu Borgir album or something.
