Slayer? Controversial?! NEVER!

2006-06-05 by pattern_recognition | 21 Comments
Once again the lads from Slayer are not just meeting controversy head on, but rather stealing an eighteen-wheeler and crashing it into controversy's living room.
According to Jeff Hanneman, they got fed up both with other bands perspectives on the 9/11 attack, and the numerous songs that bands and artists have produced dealing with the attack, and decided to have a crack at their own ditty, to be featured on their forthcoming album.
Of course, it's called Jihad.
Who saw that one coming, eh?
Says Kerry King:
"In America every band under the sun has written their 9/11 song. And that's why I didn't want to have any part of it, but this is really cool. It kind of has an 'Angel of Death' feel because it doesn't condemn anyone or say that anyone's right or wrong."
Apparently, the victims families, etc, are quite ticked off at the band. The song itself is reportedly described as 'extremist'.

Ya... except I'm sure the song won't be too good. Slayer hasn't really had any decent material since the early 90s.

All I know is I heard an extended clip of the new song 'Cult', which included vocals. I must say, it was pretty good.

Cant wait to buy the EP tommorow.

BTW, if the EP only has 'Cult', a live version of 'Dead Skin Mask', and a fan video, would they count it here as a single, or as an EP...cause I don't feel like reviewing it only to get bashed by the mods and have it deleted.

Oh yea, heres the link to the new song clip, it's about 30 seconds in length. Just click the button under the word 'posłuchaj'

Everyone has been saying the new album will be a return to form, I hope so. I'm gonna be seeing them for the first time live at Reading Festival, they better not suck.

'Cult' sounds as if it is going to be awesome. This could be a true return to form for the band.

How is it contraversial if he says that every band has written a 9-11 song, and that this song accuses no one.

slayer to me have been and still are the kings of all things metal. they continue to do what they want to do and dont give a s**t if it gets radio exposure. I'm not expecting a reign in blood type album, but i'm sure it will be cool. This Message Edited On 06.05.06

The exposure they get for their contraversy makes up for the exposure they don't get on the radio.

I doubt that I'll be able to continue living if the new album doesn't live up to their legacy
Not really, but I'm really hyped

Probably because it's heavy, abrasive, and lyrically explicit like most Slayer songs. It probably goes into detail or shows things from the terrorists' perspectives, which is enough to make sensitive, conservative types upset.

Slayer has never shied from controversy. They've always created some. They Do get played on the radio.. It might just be one night a week but One of the Big Rock stations in the region plays a block of the "Non radio friendly" Metal every sunday at 12.. Man I miss saturday night Loud..

I sure hope they do return to the form that made them so great. And I'm glad to see they're still pissing people off.
