Down Bring the Myth to Life 2026-10-08 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 4 Comments | Down have released The Myth, the opening track and second single from Volume V, due November 20 through Nuclear Blast Records.
Following Blood Oath, the new song arrives with a music video directed by MetalDave Media. Vocalist Philip H. Anselmo explained that the track pays homage to Trouble, while his vocal approach draws inspiration from James Dewar, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne and Glenn Hughes.
Guitarist Pepper Keenan described its progression from heavy riffing into a seventies-style jam, while bassist Pat Bruders recalled that the song came together naturally once the musicians began working in the same room.
Much of Volume V emerged from two writing sessions at Anselmo’s Nodferatu’s Lair studio, with Keenan and Kirk Windstein recording their guitars simultaneously. Produced by Eddie Mapp and Down, the album was mixed by Dave Fortman and mastered by Maor Appelbaum.
Volume V will be the band's first full-length release since 2007's Over the Under, following their two Down IV EPs in 2012 and 2014.
