RIP Tim Very

2026-02-15 by Eldar777 | 19 Comments
Tim Very, the long standing drummer of Atlanta indie rockers Manchester Orchestra, has suddenly passed away. The band announced this news via social media on February 14th. The cause of death is yet to be revealed. Tim was 42.

Full statement by the band:

The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very. The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life. We’ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are all still in absolute disbelief.

Tim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged. His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe.

Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.

He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too.

The only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family. You’d be pressed to find a more joyful dad.

We love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of positivity that will be a constant presence in the rest of our days.

I basically said this in the Black Mile thread but his drumming had such a unique sound to it; powerful, intricate, everything had purpose. Huge loss for my favorite band and for the music community in general. Rest in peace.

I've been watching these a lot in memory of Tim. Two videos that I'd consider essential MO.

This is my favorite televised performance from the band, there's a nice cut of Very just destroying it. It's from the Simple Math era.

That's another one, more recent, just a regular live performance but the way they add to the end of Dinosaur always blew me away. So unexpected and amazing. Once again, Tim is awesome in it.

Found out Saturday afternoon and was crushed hearing it. Manchester has slowly become one of my all time favorite bands over the years. He will be sorely missed and can't imagine what his family and friends must be going through. RIP.

@sowing thanks for sharing the live videos. The ending of Dinosaur live is phenomenal.

Never really got into this band but 42 is way too young to go. RIP

Maybe now is the time for a Manchester deep dive.

Gutted when I heard about this. Super unique drumming that always complimented the songs perfectly and a seemingly very nice, chill, hilarious dude from the clips I saw of him speaking on their Patreon. Such a loss. Hard RIP
