I always thought medical and psychological institutes did this to put everyone with autism under the same ASD spectrum. This prevents Asperger's and more severe forms of autism from seeming like totally different conditions. IMO, it just makes diagnoses and categorization more confusing, but it's whatever I guess.

yea it's more confusing when the two ends of the spectrum are given different diagnostic terms. like sint said asp is just shallower spectrum / higher functioning forms of autism. better to just call it that imo than aspergers

I have aspergers, it's a ballache trying to explain what it means to people, it is really confusing using two names for (more or less) the same condition. Everyone is on the spectrum, literally every single human being, some are just further up than others

I have Asperger’s but the effects of it could have been worse had it not been for intense therapy as a toddler. I couldn’t speak until I was 3, but I’m grateful that the only thing Asperger’s does to me nowadays is put me in more awkward social situations than the average person. I can live with that at least.

But I know and really like Autistici, an artist who makes experimental electronic music. Combines ambient, IDM & glitch and field recordings.
