The French composer Pierre Henry, one of the pioneers of electroacoustics and concrete music, the inventor of sounds that he composed in his works, died on July 6 at the age of 89, sources in his closest circle said.
"He died tonight. Would complete 90 years on December 9th." his assistant, Isabelle Warnier, who accompanies the composer's family, told France Presse.
Pierre Henry began the musical formation in the childhood, to the margin of curricular models of Conservatory of Paris, that did not attend for reasons of health. His masters include Nadia Boulanger, who taught such distinguished personalities as musician Quincy Jones, composers Aaron Copland and Philip Glass, or conductor John Eliot Gardiner.
From the beginning of his career, Henry refused traditional instruments, preferring the creation of sounds from electronics and the treatment of everyday noises, which he integrated into the composition. He is, now, a major figure in experimental music along with his frequent collaborator Pierre Schaeffer.
