Pay money To my Pain Announce Celebratory Boxset 2016-09-11 by decisions | 12 Comments | After a countdown timer hosted on their website (paymoneytomypain.com), Japanese post-hardcore band Pay money To my Pain (PTP) announced the PTP "Complete Box", to celebrate the band and the 10 year anniversary of their first release, the "Drop of Ink" EP.
The boxset will include 5 CDs, 2 Blu-rays, 12'' vinyl, limited edition t-shirts, a poster of the band, and an ambiguously titled "booklet". More specific details are "to be announced".
The announcement video can found below:
PTP disbanded after vocalist Kei "K" Goto's death in 2012, after which they released an album titled "Gene" which contained songs written with K before his passing as well as many features from the J-rock scene. The band played a final concert in 2013 titled "From Here to Somewhere", referencing a song title on the aforementioned Drop of Ink EP.
The boxset will release on December 6th, 2016, 10 years to the day of the release of the original EP.

This is exactly what I wanted. I really, really hope I can get this internationally. Fuck I love this band.
| | | quite possibly the worst band name of all time
| | | Yeah, the name looks very awkward.
| | | Haha I see why people would think that but I personally love it.
Here's a (somewhat poorly translated) quote on the name (from http://www.jame-world.com/us/articles-3349-exclusive-interview-with-pay-money-to-my-pain.html):
"Your band name is very extreme, Pay money To my Pain, what does it mean?
K: It means just what it says. Well, my nature is quite negative so my work is made when I'm feel dark or down. Then people pay money to buy our CDs, so, in brief, really they're paying and buying my pain. I really wanted to draw a line to that."
| | | From what I've heard of this band, they're alright, but nothing terribly special in the slightest. Bury is still a jam as is Respect for the Dead Man.
| | | Check out Another Day Comes, Rain, and Same As You Are (great live version on YT). Some of their best songs I think.
I love all their albums, I used to think some of their songs were generic too, but I was intrigued by the band's story and stuck with them, and now I found something to like in pretty much all of their songs. They were never technically impressive or anything, but I find that the band just had a very cohesive sound that was noteworthy in terms of composition. I always feel like each member is playing the right part you know? Perfectly in sync with each other.
Just some great moments in their songs. Like the mid-song shift in All Because of You. Just really gets me.
| | | This band name makes me laugh every time. And shortening it to PTP does no favours.
| | | I thought it was kind odd at first, but now I realize that's because it's kind of memorable.
It was in a similar category of the names of many terrible, melodramatic post-hardcore bands that whine about ex-girlfriends trying to be Daryl Palumbo. I was intrigued by it, and I didn't expect to really like them. I expected them to feel fake, just another band that tried to be emotional but failed to get me to believe that they actually felt strong emotion.
But K really was a guy whose pain I could feel in his music. The name didn't feel weird to me at all anymore. The thing that differentiated them from all the awful post-hardcore bands I mentioned before was that I believed K, I believed that he really was putting it all out there, so the name fit just fine for me.
Also I kind of like the symmetry about it. PmTmP.
I don't mean to come off as the PTP defense force haha, I understand that not everyone is going to like this band I'm posting news about that most people on here have probably never heard of, but if even one person finds my viewpoint on them interesting then I think it's worth it! After all this is probably the last thing the band will ever do :/
| | | Name is inexcusably bad. Maybe I'll listen in case they have redeeming factors. I'm not above listening to bands with terrible names.
| | | Rain was the song that got me into them, start with that.
Then try Another Day Comes, that song is fucking immaculate.
| | | Rain is a fantastic song. I really dig K's voice and singing in general. They better make this internationally available.
| | | Glad you liked it, he's one of my favorite vocalists ever without a doubt. He could do straight tone or vibrato, his voice was great for the softest and heaviest songs.
And me too of course! It's literally everything I wanted since I didn't discover this band until after they were done.
