Just preordered this last night. Hyped, both for the game and the soundtrack.

Playstation 4 game? It's also on PC
|
| |
Sweet, I'll listen to it later
|
| |
Don't really understand the hype around this game... What's made it so anticipated?
|
| |
it's a game with out 18 quintillion planets in it ... literally
|
| |
it's a game advertised as having like 500 million years of play time but then some dude on reddit finished a preview copy in 30 hours and now everyone is all upset and "in fact, ..."
|
| |
I'm gonna want to spend way more than 30 hours being a space pirate, just sayin'.
|
| |
This is the game that Spoole hates
|
| |
I doubt I'll play the game, but that soundtrack is great
|
| |
"it's a game advertised as having like 500 million years of play time but then some dude on reddit finished a preview copy in 30 hours and now everyone is all upset and "in fact, ..."
lol why am i not surprised
game is way overhyped
|
| |
soundtrack is awesome
game will be awesome
reddit ruins everything
all you need to know
|
| |
honestly the whole subreddit there is toxic as hell
sending death threats and the like
|
| |
Actually all the dude did was drive straight to the center of the galaxy as fast as he could without stopping anywhere.... It took him 30 fucking hours lol, that's insane
|
| |
well he basically took the fastest route
atm there's a mechanic which means that you cango really far really quickly and could be exploit-y so the developers may patch it
there's supposed to be a day 1 patch anyway to deal with some of the bugs, there's been a few in some of the leaks i've seen
|
| |
I don't get it. You just explore stuff in this game, how does that not get repetitive and hollow after 5 hours?
|
| |
will probably be like that for some
i'd say if you find the idea of exploring strange planets boring it probably isn't the game for you
|
| |
I love exploration, so this is right up my alley. Space is a bonus
|
| |
This soundtrack is exactly what I like to hear from this band though. Great choice to pick them for this project.

Here's what Sean Murray said about getting to the center of the galaxy back in a Game Informer interview from 2014:
“If you know what you’re doing and all of that kind of thing, some speed runner will prove me wrong, but [it’s] like 40 to 100 hours. A good length of time. But that is doing absolutely nothing else but traveling forward and that is min-maxing it, knowing exactly what you're doing. I hope that's not what the majority of players do. I hope they get really distracted and end up actually on the outer edge of the galaxy in a trade route that they really enjoy and not doing anything else. For some players they end up trying to see how long it would take them to walk around a planet or become the galaxy’s botanist or whatever. But for some players they will only want to make that journey, and that's cool.”
Dunno why people are up in arms about it then. It's a normal-length game if you're TRYING to get to the end, but if you're hyped on No Man's Sky, that's probably not why you're going to buy the game. It's the journey, not the endpoint, that'll make or break it for you.
Think about Skyrim or Fallout. Those games have a conclusion, they have an end point. If you race to the end, what, 20-30 hours? That was never the point of those games, though--it was to discover, explore, be IN the world.

I think the general vastness of the game itself is what has lended to the hype. With literally over 18 quadrillion planet-sized planets to explore, people got excited that they could live out their childhood dreams as astronauts. Apparently the developers had to send virtual space probes out into the game to explore the furthest reaches of it because it would take centuries to actually map the galaxy or universe (whatever they've labeled it) with human beings. I think it'll be the largest video game environment ever created.
"I don't get it. You just explore stuff in this game, how does that not get repetitive and hollow after 5 hours?"
I believe there's a bit more to it than constant exploration; stuff like trade, combat, resource mining, discovery of alien language, artifacts, history, not to mention there being hundreds if not thousands of different configurations for space ships, and every planet having its own unique qualities will hopefully break the mould of straight-up exploration.
At a base level, the game itself being on such a massive scale environmentally is an accomplishment in itself. And it's all procedurally generated. I look forward to naming my own planet once I discover it first.
|
| |
Probably gonna buy this game, even if it's not as big as advertised.
|
| |
I'm just concerned you'll start seeing obvious patterns and it will numb the excitement of any exploration
|
| |
i think there are patterns which become obvious. for example there are meant to be a lot of rocky/barren planets, but i think that that choice was made to make more lush plantes rarer and thus more special, and also to be similar to how universes are depicted in classic sci-fi which is a huge influence on the overall game. however if you do get boring planets there isn't much reason for you to have to go there.
|
| |
there is no way this game can execute the potential, it's just so easy to botch
chances are it'll be some minecraft-esque novelty but not much more
|
| |
@trackbytrackreviews
Good catch. Fixed. Thanks.
|
| |
For disclosure, I have no interest in this game whatsoever. The hype is killing it.
|
| |
A solid 3rd of my hype for this game is centered around this soundtrack. It's really, really good.
|
| |
It's just totally unrealistic hype. A procedurally generated universe of Christ knows how many planets. Total fucking nonsense.
Bloodbornes procedurally generated dungeons were meant to mean unlimited gameplay but the reality was they were the worst bit of the game and we all fucked it off after 10mins.
|
| |
This soundtrack is pretty great. Not my favorite post-rock album of the year, but 65daysofstatic did not skimp on quality here. "End of the World Sun" is killer.
|
| |
I can't wait for the game personally, but there's no way in fuck I'm paying $63 for it.
It'll probably have to wait until Christmas or later when the price goes down.
I don't care how many planets are there; no game is worth that much money.
