really gonna miss this band. Summer Death is one of my favorite albums and As It Were is top 10 AOTY for me. way too sad about this than I should be

jam Summer Death in their memory
| |
Woof, misread this as Metallica at first. I was filled with various emotions.
| |
you're right they should've broken up instead
| |
i just assumed metallica was dead after they released Lulu
| |
yeah still hoping for a reunion tour from these guys in 5 years or something but Snowing never got back together so idk ):
| |
emo bands disappear pretty damn easily
| |
ikr. thanks American Football for popularizing the one and done trend....
| |
nah the genre has always been like that
| |
debatable.
| |
dude pretty much all the first wave bands broke up after one record
| |
Mineral? Sunny Day Real Estate? Jimmy Eat World?
| |
Jawbreaker made a lot of records.
| |
yah those bands aren't first wave, jimmy eat world is hardly even emo
| |
then wtf is first wave? rites of spring?
| |
stuff like that yeah
| |
well first wave lasted 2 years total if that's your standard for first wave. but your idea of first wave is just emotive hardcore bands and it might as well be a completely different genre from the rest.
| |
i'd say the first wave lasted for like seven years or so, i think the term is quite well established. bands like jawbreaker, mineral and sdre are all second wave
| |
and how is emotive hardcore not emo lol
| |
they're still emo but in terms of the sound they're radically different. there's a teensy bit of an emotive hardcore revival with bands like Joyce Manor taking influence from them but overall they're really, really different sounding. seriously, compare a song by American Football to a song by Embrace.
| |
it's not like bands like american football would be the epitome of emo. it's a damn broad genre
| |
Not really. in each era almost all the bands sound damn near exactly alike. especially for first wave and 90s. there's really only like three diverse sounds, the emotive hardcore, the twinkly 90s, and the pop-emo now. skramz/screamo is a whole nother thing too.
| |
all of those can be put under the emo tag, screamo is emo too so yeah i'd say it's quite a broad genre. and what is, say, merchant ships then because it isn't really any of the things you just listed? they are still certainly emo right?
| |
merchant ships is in the 90s sound category pretty solidly.
| |
there's no such thing as "the 90s sound". obviously their sound is derived from that era but 90s emo included an infinite amount of different styles
| |
