VR Team Up With Pharrell 2006-04-04 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 9 Comments | Hot shit hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams revealed to Billboard.com that he will be collaborating with Velvet Revolver in the coming months, confirming earlier rumours.
Williams, one half of hotshot production team The Neptunes, didn't reveal any further details regarding the extent of the collaboration or whether the tracks he'll work on will appear on the band's upcoming album, Libertad. Drummer Matt Sorum and frontman Scott Weiland have, however, commented on the project in recent weeks.
"Our first album was very aggressive and just in-your-face. and we made it very quickly," Sorum explained. "And this album we just really want to, like, you know, we want to pull it back a bit, groove a little harder, [make it] a little more danceable. We've talked about working with people like Pharrell [Williams] just for the… just to check it out. I mean, it's not rock and roll, but it might be different. Who knows?! I don't know."
"With the first record, it was kind of a feeling out process on a technical level," Weiland told Billboard.com in December. "We were sort of bonded by blood in a sense, because we'd gone through very similar circumstances. On this record, I have a real concept in mind. Because of that, it will be a very album-oriented record instead of a singles-driven record."
Williams also confirmed he's working on a track named 'Happy,' possibly to appear on Weiland's long awaited second solo album. The project was previously put on ice when the singer joined Velvet Revolver in 2003.

i very much enjoy VR, and look forward to listening to more of their work.
| | | That's pretty interesting. I really hope i see some great grooves from Duff on Libertad. Especially if there is a hip hop appeal to it. My expectations from Slash are very high as well. This better rival Stadium Arcadium on expectations.
| | | the new album should be more varied than Contraband.
| | | Matt and Duff are amazing musicians. I think that almost anything that these guys put out should be really good. Contraband was GREAT!
| | | I'm so glad Velvet Revolver are opening out their sound, I was worried they were gonna make another riff-rock album. I reckon the new album will be much better than the debut...but thats what I said about Out of Exile.
| | | Rage Against The Machine was sooooooooooo much better than Audioslave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
| | | Yeah, judging by the way Come On, Come In sounded, Contraband is gonna bite the dust next to Libertad.
Slash better rip my face off with his riffing.
| | | I cant wait to hear some of Velvet Revolvers new stuff. I really like Controband and I cant wait to hear some new cool riffs from slash. Not sure about Pharrel though.
| | | Yea, im kinda dissappointed with the whole Pharrel thing. They could have gotten a better person to collaborate with, but i guess we will c what happens. VR is like one of my favorite rockbands that are in this day and age. I really hope it doesnt suck, cuz ive got my hopes up really high
