Nils Frahm issues out demos

2015-03-29 by ChoccyPhilly | 9 Comments
Classical/minimal artist, Nils Frahm, has freely released unheard demos under the compilation name, Solo, as a fundraising project for a custom made, experimental piano. The occasion, which he cites as 'Piano Day', is in place to celebrate the beauty that the instrument has to offer.

"At the end of 2014 I had an immediate urge to release a solo piano album which I recorded some time ago, and I was looking for a specific occasion to do so. I wanted it to be a nice surprise for everyone, so I thought of a meaningful release date to begin with."

Awesome. I don't know much of this guy's work outside of Spaces but that album was a masterpiece. Definitely gonna check this out.

Spaces was fantastic and I can't wait to see his follow up to that but this was a little lacklustre

Not joking dude, there has been a few articles that are just in my feed even though I haven't even been on it, let alone commenting on it.

A conspiracy.

so uhh why does this article say it's a compilation of demos? everywhere i look i see it described as a proper album, even the quoted passage in this article says it's a "solo piano album"

cool album by the way, maybe a bit uneventful but Wall and Four Hands are great

Well if you look at website he says that these songs were just lying around and he wanted an excuse to release them. Sounds like a compilation to me.

hmm, i got the impression that it was recorded with the intention of being for an actual cohesive album, and it does feel like that to me when i listen to it

also Ruins by Grouper from last year was a couple of recordings from 2011 (plus one from 2004) and that was released as a legit album, so i don't think this should be labeled as a compilation tbh

yeah it sounds more like an album than a compilation
