Cam'ron: Don't Help The Police

2007-04-22 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 20 Comments
Listen, I wanna try something here; they don't do it like this anymore- let's try and get a political discussion going.

Platinum-selling rapper Cam'ron (real name Cameron Giles) appears on tonight's (Sunday) edition of CBS's 60 Minutes, discussing hip hop's atittudes towards law enforcement and whether they hinder the police's ability to catch murderers.

Cam'ron, who refused to talk to police following a carjacking incident in 2005 in which he was shot three times, explains his refusal to co-operate in both business and ethical terms. "Because … it would definitely hurt my business, and the way I was raised, I just don't do that. It's about business but it's still also a code of ethics."

"If I knew the serial killer was living next door to me?" Giles responds to a hypothetical question posed by Cooper. "I wouldn't call and tell anybody on him — but I'd probably move. But I'm not going to call and be like, 'The serial killer's in 4E.'"

"I work in communities where the clearance rate for homicides has gone into the single digits," says professor David Kennedy of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The national rate for homicide clearance is about 60 percent. "In these neighborhoods, we are on the verge of — or maybe we have already lost — the rule of law."

Any thoughts on the matter? Is Cam'ron as dumb as I think he is, or is there a genuine logic at play?

He was raised not to help police catch potential murderers of innocent people or the very person that might have shot him three times carjacking him?

WTF?

Here's a puzzler. In that hypothetical situation who's the worse neighbor: Cam'ron or Son of Sam.

Quote: "Because … it would definitely hurt my business, and the way I was raised"

Great parenting skills there then

And "code of ethics" yes and I'm sure serial killers follow that same code. Is part of it you can kill whoever you like but your not allowed to stop people from killing .

If he snitches it'll ruin his gangsta image, so there is a certain logic to it. Because, you know, thugs 4 life don't snitch no matter what.
It's still retarded, though.

i was raised the same way. mind your own fucking business. and if you do tell who shot you, they're going to come back and shoot your ass again. keep your mouth shut, and suck it up. snitches do get stitches.

well, when you're retarded you might think that it's "ethics". in all reality it's self-preservation, not ethics. there's nothing ethical about the ghetto. just try to survive. it's sad, but also really true.

He got pwned by getting carjacked and now he thinks he can still be cool by not snitching.

He's not in the ghetto anymore. He doesn't have to play by the same rules. He's just being a retard.
In Japan, it's socially acceptable to grab a girl's ass on the metro. Nobody cares. But if I did that in Manhattan, I'd get maced. And that's just on the low end of the spectrum of analogies I can make.

No one can be neighbors to Cam'ron because he so rich his house covers a whole block. Thus, there would be no serial killer in Cam'ron's hood.

it could just be that his career is going downhill and he's pulling this as a publicity stunt.

but maybe I'm just cynical.
