This band is a great example of how 8 string guitars are meant to be played. Bass sounds beautiful and this song displays a musical maturation overall. While the last album seemed to just flaunt technical prowess it seems like the songwriting is really on a higher level here.

I don't think it's really advantageous in an absolute sense. I mean it is if you're looking for that type of warm, whiny sound that it produces and aren't interested in slapping, and thumping, etc. Or maybe if you play some real weird shit that requires tones out of the usual 12 tone scale, you can do that with a fretless but you have to have a weird custom fretted instrument if you want it with frets. I think Toby Driver's bass in his band, Vaura is like this.
