New Gazpacho LP

2014-01-27 by Mad. | 14 Comments
Respected Norwegian progressive/art rock band Gazpacho have announced the release of their 8th LP, Demon for release on 17th March.

The promotional info for the album is as follows:

Gazpacho's 2014 studio release Demons comprises four songs based on 'the mad ramblings left behind by an unknown tenant in an apartment in Prague'.

Delving deep within the demon that possessed the inhabitant and exploring the evil he has caused and all that he is capable of, the album continues the rich vein of inventive storytelling and ambitious music that typified their celebrated March Of Ghosts release.

The four songs each represent four parts of a story, ending with Death Room, which are the last words recorded within the unfinished manuscript just before the disappearance of the unknown writer.

Written over two years, the band have described Demon as, "The most complicated and strange album we've ever made."

The limited digibook edition features bonus track The Cage.

The tracklist is as follows:

1. I've Been Walking (09:49)

2. The Wizard Of Altai Mountains (04:52)

3. I've Been Walking Part 2 (12:30)

4. Death Room (18:46)

5. The Cage (03:44) [Bonus Track]

Definitely one of the best modern prog bands, their last two albums were both 4.5s, and they ain't even their best.

This is gonna be awesome, getting me some of that limited edition

Let's hope it's not just a rehash of those albums though. We're definitely in safe hands with Gazpacho though.

I was disappointed by their last mostly because the short song format just plain didn't work with what they did best. I wouldn't even mind a rehash of those but I doubt that's what they'll give us. Band is fantastic live as well, if I can get to their tour dates

I agree that the longer songs on Missa Atropos were the best (especially the incredible t/t and Vera) but I think the change to shorter songs on March was certainly a nice step. Hell Freezes Over I and Golem were awesome.

There were some great songs on that album, but it just didn't work as a collection of songs. I actually usually skipped about half of them, and I never did that with any other album by these guys. Mary Celeste and Hell Freezes Over I are both amazing, but Missa was much better, and the two before that were on another level.

Hopefully they'll head back there with this one.

That surprises me, I actually thought it flows well as one unit or individually and I thouhgt Mary Celeste was one of the weaker tracks!
I can't make a swift decision over which is better, but Missa Atropos might win.

Every track on Missa was at least good if not great. Black Star, Hell Freezes Over II, The Dumb, Hell Freezes over III? Can;'t say they're particularly good, but maybe I'm being picky because I know what these guys can do, I don't know

I really love Black Star and Hell Freezes Over II! I still do need to listen to their best 2 though so yeah that plays a part. HFO III is kinda like a bridge and The Dumb is definitely the weakest track, but still enjoyable and doesn't detract from the album

I feel the same way as JS19, March didn't really do much for me.
