John Cooper's voice is just not good enough to carry a ballad... or good enough anymore to carry about any song. Way too scratchy now. And not in a good "Collide" sort of way either.
Hows about we hear their drummer Jen Ledger take over some (or all) vocal duties? Now THERE'S an idea! Would make this stuff actually listenable...

I'm sorry, but Jen sucked. Korey was a better backup singer than Jen. Replacing Korey with Jen was one of the things I hated most about Awake.
