Due to schedule problems, every member has mutually decided to retire the band as a whole. Their last show is on August 10th for the Brutal Assault Festival 2012 in the Czech Republic. However, most of the band are going to remain active in the Finnish metal scene with other bands such as Wintersun and Naildown.
A more detailed response can be read below quoted from Norther's official statement on their website:
"We hereby announce after a long and careful consideration that we have decided to quit Norther.
During the last year it has become clear that we are not able to tour or do shows as much as we would want to, this being due to members´ complicated and time consuming life situations. We have been forced to find session members and turn down too many gig offers. We simply cannot act as an active and working band and it is clear that these issues are not solved in the future. This is everything but an easy decision for all of us, but all this have taken the band to the point that pulling the plug is the right thing to do. There is no drama, this is a mutual decision and we all remain as good friends. The last show of Norther will be on the 10th of August at Brutal Assault Festival 2012 (CZ).
However, most of us will continue in other bands: Jukka in Wintersun and Amberian Dawn, Aleksi in Medicated and ASXX, Daniel in Naildown, Heikki in Naildown, Tuoni and Amberian Dawn, and Kristian in his solo project.
Norther would like to thank especially our FANS, friends and partners for their support for the past 12 years. Also great hails goes to Tomi Luoma, our ex-members Toni Hallio and Petri Lindroos, and producer Anssi Kippo for their contribution. It has been one hell of a ride and together we shared truly unforgettable moments!!

Tbh it's for the best. Their last album sucks, better to retire then put out endless amounts of shitty albums while they still have some sort of dignity left.

Well, Naildown and Wintersun are good so I am happy with this decision.
RIP though because the underground metal scene wouldn't have been the same without them between '05 - '09. They were part of a bunch of really cool tour line-ups back then and played good shows.

When I saw them in '08 they sucked so hard people sat down on the tribune and started gossiping and playing with their mobiles and stuff. Not sure if it was their fault or the sound technican's though because the sound was BEYOND awful.

Actually kinda dug their first few albums, the last couple they put out with pretty run of the mill tho, and didn't they lose Petri recently too? I guess it's probably about time.

Can't say I'm too disappointed about this, but the first two albums were indeed enjoyable. Still, Wintersun and Ensiferum are better so fuck it. And gingerjesus, what do they do to metal bands at brutal assault?

Kalmah is the best Finnish band right now? Bodom was great, Norther is gone, and I'm honestly not familiar with the other bands from the region... the folk/power/death metal oddball genre. Mind you some of the stuff from Wintersun/Ensiferum is cool
