Cool.

Strange how there's going to be a pretty remarkable gap between the two release points
|
| |
I just came a little bit.
|
| |
for those worried about the length of the album
"We're probably only going to release shorter records from now on for the foreseeable future, because it allows us to produce more output and release things more quickly, etc., as opposed to having to wait 2 years between releases. It sucks to work for 2+ years on a long record, only to be sick of the music by the time it's finished." - Toby

Awesome news!
|
| |
Can't wait for the tour.
|
| |
Didn't know Canadians listened to good music. With Nickelback, Justin Bieber and all that crap, I didn't expect a Canadian to be into Kayo Dot.
|
| |
I'd say GY!BE balances out the shitty Canadian music to be fair.
|
| |
BLD and Coyote keep me from being "excited" per se, but I'm definitely intrigued.
|
| |
I thought the GY!BE profile pic would make you notice that I was kidding.
Some of my favorite bands are Canadian, including my favorite.
|
| |
BLD took me forever to get into. Now I love it almost as much as Choirs.
|
| |
Shouldn't this band have broken up years ago? Love their stuff, but isn't that just the nature of these kind of bands?
|
| |

"Shouldn't this band have broken up years ago? Love their stuff, but isn't that just the nature of these kind of bands?"
I don't think they're really a "band" as such, Toby Driver is the only permanent member (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so they can keep going as long as he wants to make music.
|
| |
Excellent.
|
| |
they get worse with each album
|
| |
I wasn't a huuuuge fan of their last album. Hope this is better. I'm excited now.
Also:
"yeah no Canadians have much better music then silly American"
Truth, without Canada, we wouldn't have Ten Kens. I would die if Ten Kens wasn't a band. They're one of my all-time favorites.
|
| |
Probably the most uninspired bunch of 'musicians' I have ever heard in my life. Toby Driver should just ragequit the music industry for his lack of talents.
|
| |
Oh, I am open minded so I rated Choirs of the Eye 5/5 just to look cool, but it actually deserves 2/5 at most.
|
| |
Length of albums never really concern me if the music makes up for it. What really has me worried is the fact that this was recorded live and then turned into a record. How is that going to work? Is it going to sound like it was recorded live? Is it going to sound shitty? I've never heard of a band doing this before.
|
| |
I think this is supposed to be heavy.
|
| |
that's an awesome pic, Kubrick
Rush is the best Canadian band
Kayo Dot is awesome, boring, awesome, boring, ad infinitum (at least until the record ends)
And those are my thoughts while I sit in the break room
|
| |
Thanks!
Yeah so apparently there are no clean vocals on this.. all growls. Or at least there was none at the live show where they recorded it. Maybe they'll add some in studio?
|
| |
yeah. people at the show said it was more "aggressive"
What really has me worried is the fact that this was recorded live and then turned into a record. How is that going to work?
they recorded certain parts of it live. I believe it was bass, horns, drums and some vocals. I guess they did this to avoid studio costs and overdubbed the rest in the studio. I have no idea how it will sound but i have faith that they know what they're doing.
|
| |
hope it's better than coyote
|
| |
toby told me on the twitters a while ago that it'd likely be a free internet release also
http://twitter.com/#!/tobydriver/status/121446898157625344
|
| |
The fact that he mentions it will be available on iTunes kinda contradicts that..
|
| |
All growls? I just got so much more excited for this. Interesting to see what they do with it. Any clips of the live show posted anywhere??
|
| |
i'm excited! :]
|
| |
"Any clips of the live show posted anywhere??"
Nope.. looked ever since the day of the show which was over a month ago. Kind of disappointing honestly.. I was sure someone would upload something.
|
| |
are you riffoclock
|
| |
"But this band is a bunch of uninspired posers who have nothing else to do than to put into sonic energy faggot-like hooks they have in their head and then label it as music. "
Nice sentence! 5/5
|
| |
my girlfriend just got me an original press of dowsing on wax
I'LL PUT THAT WITH THE OTHERS
|
| |
Sounds like she's a keeper
|
| |
yah I dunno how she even found it, i regularly search ebay and never find anything, she goes on once and gets it immediately
|
| |
I'll sell you my vinyl copy of Dowsing, signed by Toby and Mia, for 100000000 of your gold
This will be great, as usual.
|
| |
this is probably going to suck, as usual :'(
|
| |
After Coyote they've got no where to go but up... at least i hope.
|
| |
look at who we have staffing this joint
|
| |
Coyote becomes awesome when you see it live. Really brings the album to life, especially the drums. That shit is crazy live.
|
| |
I'll second that
|
| |
Coyote was great. BLD is the only one of their records I don't like much, and even that has its moments. I think people are too willing to write their stuff off without giving it a proper chance.
Strange how there's going to be a pretty remarkable gap between the two release points
Probably more to do with funding than anything else.
|
| |
coyote was a big step up from bld
|
| |
You all hating on BLD because Pitchfork gave it a shit review ye
Still the most fascinating band on the planet, if only because the violinist is fit and fits into a shoebox
|
| |
this is gonna rule
|
| |
i just find their last two albums totally unlistenable
|
| |
Coyote was great. Haters just hate.
|
| |
Quick note to mention that we just picked up rights to re-release the long out-of-print Bath and Leaving Your Body Map in limited edition CD packages with a few extra never-before-released bonus songs.
Also, the previously never-before-released Part the Second CD.
These will come in limited runs of 250 copies only.
Proceeds from the agreement are going towards funding the final mixing stages of Kayo Dot's new album "Gamma Knife."
|
| |
Is this ever coming out?
|
| |
^ Should have been out "around Dec.24th" according to news on Kayo Dot's website. Haven't seen it yet. Would be nice if they let us know something.
|
| |
The anticipation is eating at my sanity. I haven't even got a date to count down to. I'm just suspended in perpetual uncertainty. This is what Kayo Dot does to me.
|
| |
"Hey guys! Sorry! I'm totally still waiting to receive the record back from mastering, which was being done in Seattle. The engineer told me there was some sort of wind storm that knocked out power so he couldn't finish it on time. Seriously! Yeah, I dunno, don't ask me! Bummed, I really wanted this to be a '11 release for various reasons, but now I guess it'll be a 2012 release. So, it'll be the first kick-ass release of 2012, how about that?"
