Co&Ca change line up

2006-11-03 by Damrod EMERITUS | 18 Comments
Some already suspected it in August, now it is official: after the last tour in summer without founding members Michael Todd (bass) and Josh Eppard (drums) have now left the band.

Singer Claudio Sanchez stated to Alternative Press Magazine that differences regarding the creative process within the band and Todds and Eppards antipathy for the tour routine lead to the line up change. Sanchez: "They left the band on their own will, and to be honest: we have not spoken since july. We talked on the phone and tried to find a solution, but they wanted to go into a different direction."

This does not mean the end of the band though. The lead singer and guitarist Travis Stever are already back in the rehersal room working on new material. Studio time is planned for early 2007. Then, just like during the last tour, they will be supported by Matt Williams on bass and Chris Pennie on drums. Williams played in a Pre-Coheed and Cambria band called Jumblehead, Pennie plays drums for The Dillinger Escape Plan. If this will be the new lasting line up is not clear yet

Claudio: "We play with the line upso to say, and it's hard to say if this will be the new final line up for Coheed and Cambria. (...) I see the current situation as a new start and not as obstacle though"

I hope the change of direction is Coheed going down the Welcome Home prog route, such talent waste on boreing pop punk.

I somewhat agree as well, at least I hope for the change in direction.
I seriously tryed to get into their music, but the only song that really stood out and made me want to listen was Welcome Home.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out...

I have mixed feelings about this. One the one hand, I loved Mic and Josh, and it's hard to imagine Coheed without them. On the other, perhaps it's time for a change. Josh has always been average at best on drums, so I can't wait to see what Chris Pennie will do for the band. Mic was certainly a good bassist, but supposedly there were many issues with him and drugs during the past few months. We'll see how things turn out for the band.

It sucks, cause I heard this news about 25 minutes after watching their new Last Supper DVD. My mouth hit the floor. Guess it really was the "Last Supper"

i don't think Pennie will be the permanent drummer because he plays a huge role in DEP's songwriting and he'll have to get back with them eventually. but he's definitely better than Eppard.

too bad for Mike Todd though, he's really good. he plays kind of like Steve Harris and had some interesting grooves on SSTB.

man, if Chris Pennie is the new permanent replacement drummer, they could really become an excellent band in my book. They've only ever sort of been ok due to the vocals and the horrendously monotonous drumming. Todd was a good bassist, but nothing outstanding so maybe this new guy is better

noone mentioned

that claudio said, that all the stuff that was held inside of him for so long, will now be coming out.

NONE knows what it will sound like

But i like the new acoustic track, call it "Go Fetch the Gun" ?

Yeah BS they left because of creative differences in the writing process. Claudio is an alcoholic and flips out on the crowd, and travis is a coke addict. That's why the others left.

I wish the sound would be back to a SSTB one

but Claudio has said, they are going even further into another darker sound.
