Interpol's Classical Ambition

2009-12-21 by PuddlesPuddles | 21 Comments
In an interview with SPIN magazine, Interpol discuss their 'new direction' for their follow-up album to 2007's Our Love to Admire.

Regarding bassist Carlos D's score of his own film, My Friends Told Me About You, Banks says: "Carlos has gone to total new levels of crazy sophisticated orchestration. There's some really classical stuff going on. [He] brings that elegant, orchestral quality and he's gone even further with that."

This "orchestral quality" stated by Banks is said to more than likely appear on their yet-to-be-titled album.

Furthering his comment on their new sound, he calls it: "vital.... It's as though we've hit upon a balance between our urgency and our calm....And true to our better work, this is music that unravels over time."

"And true to our better work..."
It's nice that they acknowledge that their sound has not been up to par at times, and it really seems like they have a great direction. I have high hopes for this.

Their last album was ehh
But something tells me this will be a better 'classical' attempt than The Resistance

This could be really good.
Turn on the bright lights and Antics are 2 briljant albums.
And it's allways nice to see a band going into new territory!

Our Love To Admire kicks antics poppy ass all over the place. Of course, both albums dont hold a candle to TOTBL.

All three of their albums are great. They're all just really different, but Antics is my favorite. I'm really excited about this one.

I'm not convinced this will be good, but I'll probably listen to it anyways. Also I agree, Our Love > Antics, if only slightly

Guys guys guys, let's throw in some orchestral/classical stuff. Should bring some crazy sophistication to the mix....This sounds tacky and boring.
