lol @ "nu metal" + "acoustic ep"

why would any nu metal band want to tarnish their sound with a sappy, crappy acoustic album...

1) they were around before ill Nino were
2) they are better than Ill nino are/do the latin influenced nu/alt metal better than Ill Nino do
3) they have only 1 bad album
4) better live

there's four valid reasons why Nonpoint > Ill Nino. And no, they didn't emulate Ill Nino's sound.

Alright, I was waiting for something like that as a response. I am actually an Ill Nino and Nonpoint fan, I have all their albums, matter of fact. It's not like I'm not educated in nu-metal since that's what I grew up on and progressed further into the weird crap I like now. If you really know Ill Nino and Nonpoint you will realize that after a few successful albums of Ill Nino, Nonpoint changed.

Point 2 and 3 are both the same in this argument, so let's eliminate them because they're opinions. I can't comment on 4 because I haven't seen either live, although I would love too. I was pissed when I missed Ill Nino + Static-X.

Seriously, I like all the bands you like, It's not an outright bash on Nonpoint at all, Just saying.... They're Ill Nino #2. If you can't put past that they seen Ill Nino's success and they wanted to be like them, then I can't argue any further.

I'm guessing under "the change" you mean Nonpoint's Recoil? If so, then I can't really get why you think it was because of Ill Nino. Yes they play a similar style, yes they both incorporate some minor latin influences in their sound, but Recoil was just a normal progression for Nonpoint after Development. It was slighly more poppy and accessible, yet it also had a thicker, crunchier guitar sound and actually even had unexpected surprises, like double bass in the song "The Same" or the Phil Collins cover. Also, crediting the now ex-member Andrew, Nonpoints guitar lines are far more interesting (imo). Ill Nino might convert that anger and teenage angst better into their songs, but Nonpoint's technical side and songwriting trumps Ill Nino (well songwriting is imo, techincal side is more of a fact).

I didn't take your comment all that angrily or anything, I guess I just expressed myself in a rather pissy manner. All I'm saying is that Nonpoint is not Ill Nino #2. They are two similar bands, but both are individual.

I agree with that statement. One Nation Underground is good but not all that special. The new one I didn't really dig. I have high hopes for this new Nonpoint record though. Vengeance was pretty weak (compared to other Nonpoint records, I still pop it in every once in a while), but the guys have understood that themselves (I think), and from their studio updates and such it seems the new album might just slay. Like really.

I'm sad about the reactions here. Clearly, you have not even listened to them Wizard or are just ignorant. The band is the best you can get in NU-metal genre nowadays, i even prefer them to Mudvayne. The acoustic album got 4/5 rating here http://frantikmag.com/blog/2009/11/25/cd-review-nonpoint/ . It will be available only on the internet. But what interests me more is the full lenght album they release in Spring 2010, it's gonna be awesome.

I'm pretty sure getting Wizard to listen to some nu-metal these days would be like keeping a dog in a bath (sexual reference).

The only nu-metal I'll be checking out is probably the new Spineshank album, As well as Fear Factory, but they're not really nu-metal... just have hints of it.

That was defintiely 2007 with an early to mid point of 2008. And for good reason. What I meant to say was, Nonpoint's music was never overbearingly Latin or had lyrics as angsty or juvenile as Ill Nino. Dont get me wrong, i love old Nino but they suck now.
