Great Albums AnalysedScreenshot 2026-01-25 141710

In May of this year, it will mark the 30th anniversary of one of my all-time favourite albums, from one of my all-time favourite artists. For those unfamiliar with George Michael’s work and think of the upbeat popstar in Wham!, Older is actually a very dark and bleak record wrought by tragedy, suffering, and depression. However, what makes it so special, in spite of the sombre tone the album operates on, is the glimmers of optimism and hope nestled within the messaging. It’s a deeply personal album that has a very interesting backstory behind it, so I thought my next album analysis would look into this spectacular record for its 30th birthday.

Fascinating spotlight on this, Listen without prejudice is one of my favorite pop albums of the 90’s and I’ve heard the big singles off of this but now I’m going to give this a thorough listen. Excellent work

Always interesting to see pop stars go through periods where their music becomes very personal and introspective. George obviously had more depth than the sex symbol veneer would tell, I immediately recall the famous interview he did with Morrissey discussing Joy Division and how much more intelligent and genuine he seemed to be. That humanity side of him really put him a cut above many others.

Yeah, George had is heart on his sleeve. It’s the authentic emotion that draws me into George’s work; I don’t think there’s anyone that emotes better
