Artist: AURORA
Track: Running With the Wolves

Aurora-RS

RIYL: Bat For Lashes, Marissa Nadler and Alexa Borden.

Let’s get this out of the way first: AURORA’s music comes with a glowing endorsement from Katy Perry, but don’t let that stop you from checking this out. There’s something strange about a lot of the music that comes from Norway. No matter the style, the artists just seem to have their own strange approach; Aurora Aksnes is no different. At nineteen years old she is well on her way towards creating her own unique style. This style is a mixture of electronic elements and indie pop that often has a very dark undercurrent. There are upbeat pop tracks such as ‘Conqueror‘ as well as darker tracks such as ‘Murder (5,4,3,2,1)‘ which is about assisted suicide — and is a video that is well worth watching. The song posted here is  called ‘Running with the Wolves‘ and is probably more representative of the album’s sound overall. It has a slight indie pop sound, electronic elements, and it is as quirky as it is catchy. The song is taken from the album All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend and was released on March 11 through Glassnote.

I wanna like this "todays track feature" but c'mon is this for real?

So... you're going to have to be a little bit more forthcoming with your issues, because right now it looks like you're just bitching aimlessly.

So, do it. I want to, but I have issues writing about the indie/pop stuff.

Yeah I know. Didn't wanna come off that way. But it's hard not to when I phrase shit like that. Anyway saw this girl on live tv a couple of weeks ago being interviewed and it was so uncomfortable cos she came off as the new teenage popstar of Norway. And not in the good way if you know what I mean.

Guess what I'm trying to say is that to me this feels as genuine as if Miley Cyrus was featured here. Perfectly understandable if people don't see it that way.

Okay, so the issue isn't the actual 'Track of the Day' feature, it's this particular track of the day. That makes more sense.

In her videos she definitely seems to be trying to find a weird/quirky style and sometimes it comes off a little forced -- I'll definitely give you that. I haven't bothered with any interviews or anything. The album is really good -- genuine or not -- and doesn't sound like standard pop at all, in my opinion.

On the other hand, I don't mind manufactured poppy stuff, as long as there is an angle and an effort to kind of stand out a little -- stuff like t.A.T.u. and Kerli.

Great post. I heard this song months before the album was released and liked it. Haven't heard the album in full yet though, didn't seem like the remainder of it lived up to the few songs I heard in advance.

I really like the whole thing. Give it a try.
