Scholars maintain that Dev is capable of performing life-changing hugs, but has become incredibly judicious of which people he bestows them upon. A young Dev once hugged his childhood dog, only to watch it become sentient at a human level and able to communicate with people. The dog then went on to attempt a Ph.D at Oxford University, but tragically died of old age halfway through defending its dissertation. The resulting trauma has left Dev avowing never to meddle with the destinies of others
