Michael Jackson needs new lung

2008-12-22 by Julio Babilonia | 78 Comments
Michael Jackson is ailing from a rare lung condition and needs to undergo a transplant, according to the author of a new biography on the King of Pop.

Author Ian Halperin said Jackson, 50, suffers from Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that can be fatal.

" 'He's had it for years, but it's gotten worse,'" Halperin said in an interview In Touch magazine. `"He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It's the bleeding that is the most problematic part. It could kill him.'"

Halperin also said Jackson "can barely speak'" and is having trouble seeing: "The vision in his left eye is 95 percent gone.'"

In essence, the joke was a masked well-wishing, and it wasn't like Burn said anything other than saying he hopes Micheal beats it...throwin some props in there by using a song title. I laughed a bit and I don't think it takes any feelings away here that the vast majority of us just wish him well.
So, in Sputnik, both OJ and Michael are innocent...
If you don't understand the concept of innocent 'til proven guilty, you're an idiot, and as that concept is one of the fundamental pillars of both the US and British legal systems, Jackson is not guilty of anything.

Like I say, if you were in the courtroom, or have analysed the evidence yourself, and can present a case that suggests otherwise, then fair enough. If, on the other hand, you've just believed sensationalist media reports and the unfounded zomgs of your friends...

'joke' of a justice system?

innocent until proven guilty, or guilty until proven innocent?

the former keeps guilty people out of jail, the latter puts innocent people in. take your pick.

Doesn't matter, and if you actually understood the concept of presumption of innocence, as opposed to just being able to define it, then you'd get that.

Strikey's very much in the right here.
1) Personally, I believe in karma. That doesn't mean bad stuff only happens to people who are bad, just to clarify, but the idea is 'what goes around comes around'. I still feel bad, as I well should. I don't care who it is, death is a horrible thing that hurts lots of people. My point being that even if Michael's guilty, you shouldn't call it justified, because it's horrible nonetheless.
2) The legal system says OJ is innocent, at least for his wife's murder, yes. I don't agree, but I don't have access to all the evidence, so I'm in no position whatsoever to judge. With Michael Jackson, however, the evidence that we do have access to is very disputable, and the legal system didn't just say 'not proven', it said 'not guilty'. To me, that's pretty conclusive.

RandyMarsh
December 23rd 2008

I understand that I shouldn't state it as a fact because MJ wasn't proven guilty, but do you really believe that he's innocent. He let little children sleep over at his house.

And regarding OJ, the evidence was enough to give him a death sentence, the prosecution was just awful at making their case and explaining the evidence to the jury. I don't care what he was legally decided upon being, he was guilty and everyone knew it. Oh, sorry, "innocent until proven guilty". And now look what happened to him, he's going to jail for the rest of his life probably, and it's for a completely different crime.

Spamue1G
December 23rd 2008
1291 Comments

Yeah, and OJ's a really different case. I was kinda trying to get that across - the evidence for him being guilty is incredibly strong, but all we can say about MJ is that he let little children sleep over at his house. Yeah, he's messed up, but as it's been said before, he didn't have a normal childhood. I can easily believe that he just wants to try and have his own childhood back, which is really strange, but not illegal. Children don't generally molest each other.
Even so, the fact still stands that it doesn't matter whether he was or not in terms of whether we should have sympathy with him. All that claiming 'justice is served' is doing is encouraging hate, really. Imagine if you were proven guilty for a crime you didn't commit, and people didn't feel sympathy when you were diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease. Not nice, really, is it? I'm not referring specifically to MJ, this is just one of the many circumstances in which sympathy is a good thing to have. Even if he is guilty, sympathy is still a good thing, you don't do anyone any good ignoring it or saying 'he got what he deserved'.
I realise that was basically a crap presentation of what I was trying to say, but hopefully you understand my points. I'm not gonna try and argue anymore, I've said what I feel's necessary. This Message Edited On 12.23.08

OJ was proven guilty very recently when he confessed to his wife's murder

He's doing time for armed robbery and kidnap, not his wife's murder. You can't be tried for the same crime twice unless new evidence is found and word of mouth is NOT evidence. Also he never admitted it openly as far as I know.
