I love the way he uses the word "progressive" and thinks it applies to his music.

they've gone so downhill
|

old Green Day: Power Pop?
|
| |
I was going to criticise their music, but I think Ill take the ladder and ask if theyll forget to bring their eye-liner. Such sell-outs.

hey weren't these guys kinda power pop b4
christ almighty they have short memories!
|
| |
yeah but punkitup, American Idiot was raw punk, you're forgetting that, clearly.
|
| |
i haven't liked these guys since dookie. the only thing they put out that i enjoy.
|
| |
this is goddamn pathetic. they're just getting a float in the shitty "scene" band parade. from
Dookie to this...This Message Edited On 12.03.08

Bit too much hate going on. Pathetic? Pathetic to me says a 'return-to-your-roots, faster, thrashier than ever, general metallica-isms' statement. This is just Billie Joe saying 'I want to work on expanding my music'. If that's pathetic, you've called 90% of the music world pathetic, really.
American Idiot's one of the best things to come out of the mainstream in a while, I think. I'm excited for this.
But yeah, 'progressive' and 'Green Day' don't go together. Just no.This Message Edited On 12.03.08

i agree with spamue1G
i hate when people just expect green day to recreate the same cd over and over again.
|
| |
We'll see what happens, I kinda liked American Idiot
|
| |
i dont understand why people say that american idiot is terrible. what about it makes it bad? its huge in scope, the lyrics are pretty good and each song is different. you cant put that cd on and go "oh this sounds like *insert band/song*". i like american idiot way more than their old stuff. i do like nimrod and most of warning though.
|
| |
Power pop...wtf. Is that like Power Metal but Pop?
|
| |
power pop is like paramore i would think.
|
| |
i hate when people just expect green day to recreate the same cd over and over again.
well maybe if the didn't do it with practically every album they make we wouldn't expect it!
i like Green Day 'tho
|
| |
A pretty easy bridge from American Idiot, just sanitized pop-punk/rock churned out for a buck.
|
| |
medical weed is the best :smoke:
i like the fact Green Day always do the same kind of thing. they have some good songs, energy, w/e. they make the girls cry and get the boys laid
i liked Insomniac, Dookie, American Idiot, and that one with Time Of Your Life on it
w/e they are fine

Dammit, someone got there before me.
Pretty much agreed with the guy above me.This Message Edited On 12.03.08

THREE CHORD MAYHEM?!! ?? !

its as if Pete Townshend were GOD
oh wait
|

Butch Vig neuters bands.
|
| |
pretty much. thats why bands use him
they're like "make our bark worse then out bite" and he's like "no prob gimme your balls"
end of story
still like Green Day, 'tho.
|
| |
No Green Day album is different as far as songwriting goes. I would expect this to be the same as all the other albums.
|
| |
i haven't liked these guys since dookie. the only thing they put out that i enjoy.
Could you even walk when Dookie came out?
|

the relevance of that statement to this conversation makes me head explode.
and yes, I was past walking and talking by 94'.This Message Edited On 12.03.08

I highly doubt snacakry listened to Green Day when he was 3 years old.
|
| |
This just shows Sputnik is full of morons.
I love this band, i don't give a flying fuck what you say :D
plus he mentions the who, the jam and all those other cool 70's powerchord rockers!
|
| |
what the hell is power pop?
|
| |
its powerful pop silly
|
| |
Power pop is basically pop rock. I think Paramore, All-American Rejects and The Click Five are decent examples.
maybe not idk
|
| |
My understanding was that Power Pop = Cheap Trick, Weezer's first album...stuff like that.
|
| |
I'm relying on them to make a good album
|
| |
oh god.
I hope this won't be a fail.
|
| |
It won't. Watch this album explode.
|
| |
American Idiot's one of the best things to come out of the mainstream in a while, I think
lol American Idiot was awful.
|
| |
American Idiot was awesome when it came out. Still pretty good, but the radio drastically shortened its lifespan.
Either way, I haven't heard a Green Day song I dislike yet, so I'm looking forward to this.
|
| |
oh i forgot about Warning. i like that album quire a lot. thats just a big 'ol fistful of power pop
|
| |
American Idiot was good, but its the only Green Day album I've listened to. I can't say I'm looking forward to this "power pop" album but AI defined their punk style, at least for me.
|
| |
"I love the way he uses the word "progressive" and thinks it applies to his music."
First of all, he's talking about music that you haven't even heard yet and how he's trying to make it different than their previous efforts, making your statement ignorant. Second of all, 'Jesus of Suburbia' is a pretty progressive song in terms of pop-punk.
Lastly...did Billie Joe just say he didn't know what someone meant when they said "bada$$"?
|
| |
this isn't surprising as they always sounded more pop than punk. the talking heads is more punk than green day.
|
| |
thank you AP07373.
as more highly thought of dookie is than much of greenday's later work, if they had just been putting out the same cd for the last fourteen years, i dont think anyone would be calling for a newer version of this cd. whether or not you take billie joe's attempt at making a more progressive cd, you have to respect his attempt at progressing as a musician, as poor as it may be.
|
| |
Progressive doesn't necessarily mean the music has to be redefining the way we listen to music with revolutionary genre-fusion and complex polyrhythmic blah blah blah...
If you can't see a logical progression in Green Day's music from Insomniac to Nimrod to Warning then you're not listening hard enough. Listen to 'Misery' off Warning and tell me it wouldn't sound completely out of place on Dookie.
I don't listen to Green Day very often anymore, but I'll probably buy this when it comes out. Should be a fun album.

Too many people confuse progressive with technical, experimental, or any kind of abstract song writing.
|

^ i agree.

These guys are basically the Metallica of the alternative world. People expect these guys to simply play their music like they used to, but what listeners have to realize is that they want to experiment. They want to try some new **** and see if people like it. Let 'em try it, and sit back and try to enjoy it.
Personally, I'm not crazy stoked about them workin on a new album, but I will check it out. American Idiot was ok, and I hope their next one is somethin better, but similar. Tough to explain.
