Deftones bassist awakes

2008-11-10 by Damrod EMERITUS | 61 Comments
In good news the Deftones announced in their blog that bassist Chi Cheng has apparently awaken from coma.

Straight from the Deftones blog http://deftonesinstudio.blogspot.com/:

I just had the pleasure of speaking with Chi's mother. She, as well as the entire Cheng family, would again like to thank you for all your love and support and knows God is healing Chi because of your prayers, love and good work.

This Sunday saw the first signs of your prayers in action. Chi was able to hear and respond to his father's request to move his lower lip. His father also administered a tendon reflex test, of which both legs responded with movement. Doctors continue to remain optimistic, and the energy at the hospital remains very positive.

The family would also like to send a special thank you out to the three off duty EMTs that stopped shortly after the accident and saved Chi’s life. It was by the Grace of God that these three individuals happened to be traveling on the road with medical gear in tow at the time of the accident. If not for them, the chances of Chi making to the hospital alive would have been poor.

Please, keep your prayers, thoughts, and love coming!

Chi Cheng lay in a coma after a severe car crash on November 3rd.

why does God get all the credit if good things happen but people if bad things happen

it's clearly just coincidence and luck and science

it could be said that God intervenes in some of the extraordinarily good or unbelievable situations, whereas the rest of the time he watches. I've been party to a number of unbelievable situations myself

Altmer, your right on the mark there! Strange that eh?
There is only two possible answers; 1) God is a sick fuck and doesnt care about those who worship him and enjoys watching suffering. 2) He doesnts exist.
Tbh, i'd be more worried if it was 1, thankfully its not.
Don't thank God for this, thank medical SCIENCE and consideration of caring people, god had nothing to do with this.
Stay strong Chi!

Somehow, as soon as I read those three words, I knew people would make a big deal out of it. Doesn't matter whether you think it was divine intervention or coincidence and chance, just be happy the dude's alive and still breathing!

And for the record, I believe that God takes credit for everything; e.g., no one blames Job for the shit that happened to him. This Message Edited On 11.10.08

i was commenting more on the fact that usually people leave out God's influence on bad things when they mention him

i hate seeing that in such messages because it makes God seem like some really arrogant dick who can take credit for anything good but isn't responsible if you fuck up.

I'd rather people take the time to really think what happened and that what keeps you alive is your body, in the end, and that physical operations saved Chi. it's not like the doctors sat there and watched him recuperate and prayed lol, if that was the case doctors would be out of a job. i'd much rather thank my doctor for keeping my son/friend/whatever alive. that just makes a lot more sense than thanking some invisible grey dude with a beard up there nobody can even see.

That's not true, just as many people blame God when bad things happen to them.

I do agree that the doctors should get credit though, they're the ones who saved his life. But the situation DOES have to do with a lot of good luck, and whether you attribute that to chance or divine intervention depends on your perspective.

This is great news btw. This Message Edited On 11.10.08

At least the believe in something unlike you.

This is always a really funny misconception to read or hear, Atheists who have a brain know that belief in scientific theory is just as valuable as the belief in an idol, if not more so, as it is backed by thousands of years of evidence.

Flyboy

I myself don't really partake in any religion as I find scientific evidence a lot more meaningful and it just makes more sense, but its kinda offensive when people are saying, "wow they thanked God for Chi still being alive. lolololol, idiots."
I do think there is a God though... but so far religion hasn't been able to prove that. This Message Edited On 11.10.08

i dont see why they should thank science. The science kept his heart beating and lungs breathing (which is great, dotn get me wrong) but theres not a whole lot doctors can do to get the brain working again. SO it is a "miracle" in a sense that he's regaining his brain functions. although thew article is sort of misleading....
