Metallica - More Album News 2008-01-08 by Trey STAFF | 24 Comments |
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the band's much-anticipated new album, tentatively due in the spring via Warner Bros. Records.
"This stuff is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," he said. "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes. It's pretty different from 'St. Anger', and it's pretty different from the 'Load' stuff. This stuff is not the one-dimensional punch in the face that 'St. Anger' was. This is probably a little more like those couple of albums back there in the decade that begins with an '8.'"
When asked if the material represents a return to the "old school," Lars replied, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fuck? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me. It's been no secret that Rick [Rubin, producer] suggested to us that we use a couple of those records as reference points — that we spend some time kind of accessing that headspace. So when we would come to forks in the road, sometimes the exercise became, 'What would we have done at this point in 1985?'"

Will I actually buy my first Metallica album since the Black album??? It seems I might give them another chance.
|
| |
Its gonna be intresting to see if Rick can bring the "Thrash" back to Metallica and not another St. ANGER with just soft interludes. Its pretty clear that the members of Metallica are old, but there's no reason why they cant play with the intensity of lets say SLAYER... !
|
| |
They have the potential to make it good, but whether they do or not is another point.
|
| |
well...we will see
|
| |
Well it can't be worse than St. Anger, right?
|
| |
lol...I'm skeptical. Very rarely have bands successfully "returned to form," and these sorts of conservative idealizations of past efforts tend to breed stagnation within the creative process. It's not 1985 anymore, guys...

lars, might i kindly request that you SHUT THE FUCK UP, GET BACK IN THE FUCKING STUDIO, AND GET ON WITH FINISHING THE ALBUM THAT YOU WERE TOO FUCKING LAZY TO RECORD, SAY, TWO YEARS AGO?!?!?!
jesus, these guys are starting to rival nine inch nails for time left between albums...

It doesn't matter if the new album is gonna be great because it still gets ruined by James's fuckedup voice, his vocals are awful nowadays.
Just listen to St. Anger and Reload and you know what I mean, he sounds like a whining country singer with stomach- acheThis Message Edited On 01.09.08

because St. Anger was a one-dimensional punch in the face
|
| |
I punched myself in the face after St Anger
|
| |
Hey if Megadeth did it, these guys can probably do it as well.
But they won't do it as well as Megadeth.

'What the ****? Lars lied to us!'
What the fuck? Lars, you lied to us before! Why are we going to believe you this time. I already have low preconceptions for this album. They said this same bullshit before St. Anger came out.
|
| |
I bet it'll be better than St. Anger, but still not that good
|
| |
1st: why dont they just do whatever the **** they want, why care for some weird fans who will just talk bad anyway? Coz that is sellout. To not do what one like but what others will buy.
2nd: why look at what they did back then. they have evolved, if they dont have it in blood what they did back then, then they'd just copy themselves instead of creating it a new.
3rd: why Rick Rubin, i know SLAAAYYYERR. but nowadays he is just doing plain pop. LP and RHCP as great examples. Hell, LP was kinda a bad copy paste to be like the new radio big sellers like snow patrol....
|
| |
^^^^I'm pretty sure Metallica is seen as already a "sell out".
|
| |
I can't help but think this album will at least be decent. They know St. Anger sucked, and they know the Load albums weren't so popular either. If they do what they truly want with this album and if Lars is right about it sounding different than their last 3, then it'll be worth a shot in my opinion.
|
| |
Well whether I'd like to or not, I'll probably hear the new album anyway.
|
| |
everyone and their mums and dads are going to listen to the album, but this time they'll hear it before buying.
|
| |
Yeah I think I might actually buy my first Metallica album since The Black Album. Oh wait, I have Garage Inc. and S & M...
|
| |
This is probably a little more like those couple of albums back there in the decade that begins with an '8.' yesss more bloated, repetitive thrash metal!
oh well it's not like they'll actually do it
|
| |
I'm still not excited
|
| |
being the big Metallica fan that I am, I will buy this. Hey, I liked all their albums, but the stuff in the 80's wiped its @ss with St. Anger (even though I liked St Anger) lolThis Message Edited On 01.09.08

If you mean the live ones - they aren't gonna make it on the album, only a couple of the riffs do.
