When I was reading the news about the Cancer whenever it was that it was posted, the tone of his statement definitely didn't sound good. Gone too soon. He made sure to get the vocals done before the surgery, though. Obviously, that was important to him and I can't wait to hear it.

| |
damn RIP, one of the best and most recognisable voices in metal
|
| |
RIP so hard. Crushing news.
|
| |
this is going to be the hardest of hard "jam Grotesque" week
|
| |
Hail Tompa!
|
| |
God damn. Rest in peace.
That’ll be enough now for 2025.
|
| |

|

2025 has to end already man... Another legendary RIP
|
| |
fucking rip
|
| |
Jesus, how many more...
I haven't listen to this band, but I hope this is the last death for 2025...
|
| |
the band that got me into death metal. Tomas was my first big interview when I got a music magazine writing gig in college. he was a good and humble man and I'll miss him. rest easy, legend. 😭❤️
|
| |
"I haven't listen to this band"
Do yourself a favor and jam the first 4 albums plus the Gardens of Grief EP.
|
| |
RIP this sucks
|
| |
Will keep that in mind, thanks Hawks!
|
| |
Hard RIP, man was a living legend in the melodeath scene.
|
| |
never jammed anything other than slaughter. maybe ill get to the other stuff.maybe not
rip
|
| |
You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't jam the albums/EP I mentioned above.
|
| |
RIP Hard. His legacy will never be forgotten \m/
|
| |
Thanks for the recs, Hawks. Never listened to them either so I'll give them a shot. Are they Gothenburg in the same vein as Soilwork?
|
| |
They are Gothenburg, but not like Soilwork lol.
|
| |
I know very little about this style of death metal outside of Soilwork and, like, In Flames lol. I'll for sure take a look.
|
| |
I'm in the minority, but I'm more a fan of their last two albums than anything they did during their initial run.
|
| |
Same Willie
|
| |
RIP :[ this one hits different. One of the most iconic and important persons for Swedish metal
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
Tomas was one of the reasons I wanted to be a vocalist, way, way back in the day.
I woke up yesterday and heard the news and it absolutely broke my heart.
I read that statement a while ago, and I agree, it definitely felt like he knew it was coming.
I'm glad he was able to record while he still had the means to do so. That final album will be the final feather in the hat of a long and incredibly glowing career. RIP.
|
| |
I feel you, Panzer :c I used Blinded and Slaughter as my vocal warm ups for years.
also, PSA: The Flames of the End, their reuinion DVD/CD from Wacken, is a great overview of their material if you don't have time for the whole discog. classic performance of almost all the important stuff.
|
| |
Said it in the Slaughter thread but if this man really recorded all of the vocals for an unreleased album ONE DAY before getting a cancer related surgery in his fucking mouth, just, god fucking damn what a badass.
This year has been fucking terrible for metal fans and to me this is almost as devastating as Ozzy. Slaughter of the Soul had such a massive impact on me and really helped shape my taste in music beyond what I was hearing from mainstream metal bands.
Hoping the band doesn’t hang it up, I don’t think the he would’ve wanted that. They’ve had such a good run of records since they reunited.
|
| |
his stuff with nightrage slapped too
first two albums weren't that far off at the gates quality
|
| |
His album with the crown was great too.
|
| |
That “Go!” changed a lot of peoples lives.
RIP
|
| |
so hard Spec. it's engrained on my musical psyche
huge RIP
|
| |
that part of the song launched so many mid 00's metalcore careers
|
| |
Actual GOAT, R.I.P.
|
| |
fuckin A spec. Exactly what I was trying to say.
|
| |
darkest hour owe their careers to at the gates, and i love their early albums
as do several other bands
|
| |
RIP Thomas, Slaughter of the Soul was/is a huge part of my life as a metalhead.
|
| |
Huuuuuuuge RIP. Everyone's already said everything there is to say, but man, AtG has been baked into the DNA of so many sounds across the extreme music spectrum for decades now.
And for the guy who asked if they were Gothenburg in the Soilwork way, gotta say that while the later Soilwork stuff isn't as similar, the first two albums are pretty much directly working off the Slaughter of the Soul blueprint, vocals included
|
| |
Absolutely horrible news. R.I.P. Tomas.
|
| |
I jammed them when i was 15 twenty years ago. RIP
|
| |
Vila i frid
|
| |
Hard RIP
|
| |
RIP to a legend
|
| |
This really sucks. At the Gates was one of the first Death Metal bands I fell in love with, possibly the first when I heard Slaughter of the Soul when I was 14. No one sounded quite like him. RIP.
|
| |
hard RIP
his vocals on the grotesque stuff were fucking nasty
|
| |
This is heartbreaking, RIP
Will take this sad occasion to dive into his stuff, it's been on my list for quite some time now.
|
| |
R.I.P. At the gates was a huge gateway band and ofc still stands great on its own too
|
| |
RIP unbelievable how important At the Gates were for metal in general, really sucks
|
| |
They also were extremely influential on the metalcore genre. As I Lay Dying, Unearth, Parkway Drive, Trivium, Heaven Shall Burn, I Killed The Prom Queen .. At The Gates is in their DNA.
Rest in Peace you absolute legend.
