So like.. do people like the vaxis albums? I never got super into these guys but it seems like they’ve more or less faded away since like… 2010
|
| |
Vaxis II was fun. Vaxis I was boring. This one is shaping up to be their best.
EDIT: “best of the Vaxis releases”
|
| |
We can only hope. It's been a solid 20 years now since these guys broke my brain
|
| |
Not awful
|
| |
Vaxis 1 had okay stuff
|
| |
What are you guys talking about? This song slaps. Been following these guys since Burning Star IV.
|
| |
no world for tomorrow is such as fvckin' bop
|
| |
Vaxis I had stronger individual tracks (Dark Sentencer), Vaxis II was a more consistent album experience imo. The fact that this new album has a named suite rather than the unofficial suite that closed Vaxis II makes me so fucking happy. Need to listen to the new single ASAP
|
| |
Coheed lost me after the first three albums. Can’t get into anything else after sadly.
|
| |
better than the other recent ones I heard
|
| |
“Coheed lost me after the first three albums. Can’t get into anything else after sadly.” Fair, most older fans cite NWFT as their first misstep, though imo it was YOTBR
|
| |
^This is the closest they've ever sounded to their first 3 albums since Good Apollo. I'm hoping this will feel more of a spiritual successor to Good Apollo 1 because I do think that was the last *true* Coheed album with their original sound. Also a 4-song suite closing the album? go on then!
|
| |
Vaxis I is incredible and their best since From Fear
New song is great.
|
| |
@OwMySnauze You should at least try The Afterman albums if you like the first threes.
Actually a good song! I like the poppy chorus
|
| |
yeah this new song is quite a step up from what I've heard from them lately
|
| |
New single’s classic Coheed if I’ve ever heard it. Probably should’ve been the lead single instead of Blind Side Sonny to be honest
|
| |
Vaxis I and II are hit or miss depending on the song. There's a lot I really dislike and stuff I think is great.
I'm loving this new tune a lot though. Very reminiscent of Good Apollo I's middle songs. 11 albums in I've come to terms with knowing they're going to make music I don't like but I'm really hoping Vaxis III ends up being super consistent all the way through like Ascension and their first 3 albums.
|
| |
They had one meh song and that’s it. I don’t know anyone who isn’t an incel that listens to them.
|
| |
So many incels these days
|
| |
StonedManatee has us all figured out.
Or is friends with a lot of weird people.
|
| |
I know I enjoyed Vraxis II but I've had no desire to come back to it since it dropped. Vraxis I had some of my favorite work from them.
But this is sick, I'm excited.
|
| |
first 3 are the best, but NWFT and Aftermans are great too
Vaxis I and II are ok but really mixed bags
|
| |
New song is pretty solid. I like it.
"no world for tomorrow is such as fvckin' bop"

I really like Vaxis I, it definitely has pacing issues but it was the first Coheed album to truly nail that "spacey" feel. I can't put my finger on it, but the album has a particular "feel" that makes it seem otherworldly (Black Sunday and Night Time Walkers are great examples).
Vaxis II on the other hand fixes the pacing issues but loses the feel. It flows more like a greatest hits album than a conceptual epic, although Window of The Waking Mind is an absolute monumental track. From the singles I can't see Vaxis III changing the formula in this respect, but if it's anything like the first 3 albums, we're in for a treat.

| |
Band started to suck hard after the debut
But that short single they released recently was kinda fun
|
| |
I'll just say it's nice to see a return of coheed hype on Sputnik and it has me revisiting the discog
|
| |
Their album art continues to look like it was produced by AI, but these two singles definitely have my interest piqued for the full length.
|
| |
"But that short single they released recently was kinda fun"
Probably the worst song in their entire discog lmao imagine calling most of this band's material bad but that is okay ewwwww.
Hearing good things about the 2nd single but I"ll prob wait for the album at this point and expect to also have varying opinions on the tracks like the last couple albums. They're still putting out a lot of material I really like this late in their career so I'm happy enough to keep listening.
|
| |
Between the two singles, Bind Side Sonny is definitely the worse of them. It's grown on me with repeat listens though, so there's that
|
| |
"first 3 are the best, but NWFT and Aftermans are great too
Vaxis I and II are ok but really mixed bags "
correctest take.
|
| |
ugh this band
|
| |
ugh this band

Songwriting and Storytelling for first four is G.O.A.T.'d.
YOTBR songwriting is fine but the story missteps.
Afterman songwriting and storytelling is great.
VI- Decent songs, decent story
VII-Songwriting is mid. Lyrics really stumble in some parts.
New songs are shaping up to be awesome though.
|
| |
Good Apollo IV > > > > > > Aftermen > In Keeping Secrets > No World For Tomorrow > Second Stage Turbine Blade > YOTB > Vaxis I > CBTS > Vaxis 2
|
| |
SSTB>GAIV>IKSSE>Aftermen>NWFT>Vaxis1>Vaxis2>CBTS>YOTBR this is the only way.
V1/2 are a mixed bag but each have some great songs/moments. Blind Side is maybe the worst Coheed song ever but this song is really pretty good and I don't expect anything else on the album to sound like BSS so I'm cautiously optimistic.
|
| |
Woah, CBTS not being at the bottom's a hot take. I'd also personally put NWFT above Afterman, just for the End Complete suite alone, but other than that, I do kinda agree
|
| |
"So like.. do people like the vaxis albums? I never got super into these guys but it seems like they’ve more or less faded away since like… 2010"
Vaxis I is one of my favorite C&C albums ever.
Vaxis II is an afront to music in every singular way.
|
| |
Silent Earth III is still one of my favorite albums of all time
|
| |
was kind of hoping they'd move on from the vaxis 'saga' or whatever but this song is at least pretty fun
|
| |
Black Rainbow is my favorite album of theirs.
|
| |
@memnite - the Vaxis saga will be 5 albums so they won't be moving on for a while yet.
Enjoying the new track, Blindside was ok as a mid-record song but a weak single.
Vaxis II was refreshing as it had a great pace and opened without a faux epic typical 'Heed track ala The Dark Sentencer. Domino did that song better 3 albums before it.
|
| |
"They had one meh song and that’s it. I don’t know anyone who isn’t an incel that listens to them."
you know what incels do? they come into a popular bands news thread and say the band sucks and then insult the people that like that band
|
| |
5 albums is crazy!!! what!!!
|
| |
These guys haven’t made anything worthwhile since Apollo 4 vol. 1, or whatever the hell that album was called lol I got excited when Chris pennie joined the band, but that last a whole 5 seconds.
|
| |
Guns of Summer was Pennie's best contribution to the band. Very reminiscent of the atmospheric Dillinger tracks.
