Better than first one, but too long and blowed up. Great to hear this is actually flirting with their roots.

*IT WORKED!*

I guess they're at least actively trying to recapture something now?

This sounds like a forgettable album track, doesn't bode well when it's out as a single.

I hope Kiedis calls his moustache Tangelo and the song is about it.

hmmm that was pretty lame, the first one was much better, but at least this track doesn't feature Kiedis' pirate accent

I would pay extra for a version of this album that has no vocals on it

These tracks have been cool until anthony starts doing his thing, let me just hear the trio funk it up

This would be fine as an album track but it's hardly single worthy.

Once again, John's guitar is great and subtle, Groovy drumming and bass work, cool instrumental, and Keidis the weak point.

Keidis used to write some great hooks like 10 years ago. The last album with an actual excellent track was probably 'I'm With You' (Brendan's Death Song is great)

The chorus kind of works. Idk why Anthony's doing that on the verse, though. The instrumental's enjoyable. I feel like this could've had stronger dynamics to it if the vocalist had the intention. Like when you're getting more into something and it makes your bandmates start to groove harder because you're bringing that energy... This track kind of just sails along, and it's alright, but I'm not drawn to it.

Apparently it is edgy to complain about a band playing it safe after 40 years? I thought people on this site were still into complaining about Deafheaven becoming Slowdive? Got to love gatekeepers.

I wasn't too psyched with my first listen of Black Summer, then just yesterday I was waiting in the dentist office and black summer came on, and at first I thought it was a song from my dad's collection. And then all of a sudden the song changed ever so slightly and I realized ohhhhh this is the new chili peppers song! And i loved it.

Got home like an hour later and checked out poster child. Probably one of the best chili peppers songs to be released since stadium arcadium. If it was on either of their last 2 albums it would probably be the strongest track on either album because it incapsulates their sound so well.

Btw, 98% of the takes I read on sputnik are hot garbage. these ppl kno so very little about music lol

I think the band release it as a single more because of the lyrics than the melodies. There are references to CBGB, NY/UK Punk, Hair metal and Funkadelic, all big influences on RHCP sound. They already did this on past songs like Aerosplane, Coffee Shop, Dani California and Goodbye Angels.

The song itself is ok, better read the lyrics for better appreciation.

the thing is this band, if not catchy, is basically pointless. They did catchy anthemic stuff well and funk songs well too (which were also catchy) so if they aren't doing that, I don't see the point. They aren't really a ''jam band''

Grungil

I might be the minority here, but i think they were doing really good jams live, while Klingshoffer was in the band. Way better and more interesting than those B chord guitar solos (Ex:Scar Tissue) that Frusciante was applying on every song, while playing live.

They straddle the line between jam band and pop band. Like sure, they have pop hits and all, but they improv plenty in their live sets.

Yeah they have a lot of stuff up through BSSM that, despite being very accessible, I wouldn't really call "pop". I find their albums post-californication to be much more hits-plus-filler type deals but even those have moments that are kinda loose and jammy (admittedly those moments were not singles but still)

SitarHero

I was actually a little surprised at how layered and jammy even their big hits are when I re-listened to Uplift Mofo, BSSM, and The Getaway in the past couple of years. It's a bit of a shame that Klinghoffer was dropped despite likely being the guy bringing the most fresh ideas to the table at this point. And there's enough going on in even their classic songs to have both guitarists play off each other so it wasn't even like the band *needed* to have only one guitarist.

Not a fan of anything that they have releases with the exception of a few singles since By The Way, but I love these two singles. They both have a timeless feel, mostly due to Frusciante being back which is totally necessary for this band.
