I got nothing against James Mtume or any of the latest deceased musicians, but is this the right path for sputnik? Publishing obituaries from everyone who was musician or related to music? If so, please consider to create a obituary page, and let the news page remain mostly related to new music by our favorites musicians.
Anyway, RIP Mr. Mtume. Thanks for your amazing work.

what a strange thing to complain about

RIP
"what a strange thing to complain about"
[2]
informing people about deceased artists has always been normal for music websites
|
| |
gonna be publishing Grungil's obituary next
RIP Mtume
|

"informing people about deceased artists has always been normal for music websites
"
I know, but the show must go on.
|
| |
I completely agree with Grungil. I get it when it's someone that had a massive impact on the musical world at large, but not everything is newsworthy.
|
| |
It's not like you're not getting news about other music related stuff because these articles exist so I don't get how they bother you
Not every musician is on Bowie's level of popularity, that doesn't mean that the people who enjoyed their music don't have the right to know about their deaths and pay their respects. It's not like selling less records makes them less people or worse musicians lol
People die every day, that doesn't mean it is something irrelevant. Unless you're some kind of super nihilist guy with a pretentious taste in music I can't see why you'd be bothered with an article that informs about someone's passing just because that person wasn't relevant enough for you or of your taste in music
And as I said before. It is a music website. Musicians deaths are literally among the most important and common things to be published in such places. You still get to know if low tier bands like Avenged Sevenfold are releasing a new album, so I don't get why whine about stuff like this. Seems like disrespect towards the dead and nothing else

Worst post of the year already won. Congrats Grungil.
|
| |
Also fuck Gorodustin too.
|
| |
idk, this is one of the ways I discover musicians, sometimes

yeah totally cringe user
|
| |
if obituaries to other news ratio is too high, the correct way to proceed would be to post more other news, not fewer obituaries
also, to post what you do wish to see, not complain about what you do not wish to see

Like i said. The Show Must Go on.
There is a deadly pandemic outhere. There´s business shutting down, millions of people unemployed and starving with debs and hunger. Theres climate change. Theres a lot of bad things going on, right now. The human race is heading to extermination for god ´s sake. And whoever is running sputnikmusic.com, one of most visited websites in the world about music, decides to turn it into a music obituary?
|
| |
None of the things you mentioned are related to music though. It's not like this is the BBC
Out of the 13 news articles featured in the homepage, just three are about deaths. How is that too much. If anything looks to me as the same you'd see on any other site related to other stuff. As arf said, if you want to see other stuff, publish it yourself, that's one of sputniks main features
The show must go on and who has said otherwise? It's not like your life's stopping because of this. This is literally just to inform about someone's death so people know about it and pay their respects. You're confusing "the show must go on" with literally not giving a fuck
jeez, I can't believe we're discussing something as basic as human empathy
|
| |
Death is part of life. We all know that! But are we gonna start counting and posting every musician´s death, like those 99,9% Tv channels are counting all deaths related to covid?
|
| |
it's not that i think that an obituaries page is a bad idea but man, what a fucking terrible way to pitch it. show some respect. the death of a musician is 100% newsworthy and impactful to listeners, especially when you consider the lifechanging work they have as part of their legacy.
|
| |
Quick where is that "Sputnik user quotes" list
|
| |
RIP, awful thread
|
| |
i think the problem is that people aren't posting enough music news here these days. can't tell you how many strings of days i log on and there are no new news posts, despite there obviously being a ton of music news. it's probably related to the fact that most threads turn inflammatory so quickly though, so there's definitely a bigger issue there of respecting people's opinions etc.
|
| |
hmm, I saw abbath drop a music video and he announced next album. that might be newsworthy, anyone wants to take that? (I'm burned out and chilling not mentally completely here)
|
| |
if you think there are too many obituaries clogging up the front page then you should rectify that by writing up some relevant news articles and posting them yourself. if they're good the mods will approve them jsyk thanks xoxo

"sputnikmusic.com, one of most visited websites in the world about music"
And here I was working for free.
In all seriousness, this is a strange complain and shouldn't drive the attention away from the real news.
RIP James Mtume, he was a hell of a musician, played in several Miles Davis records in the 70s too.
|
| |
Gonna start giving birth to musicians so we can balance out the News page.
Who wants to pop a virtuoso in me? Medical bills on user Gungargle
R.I.P. Mtume
|
| |
Grungil, you'd be right if that was what was even happening. If Mtume was one of your favourite musicians, you wouldn't be saying this shit.
The world doesn't revolve around you, and if you want your Internet experience to be catered to your narrow worldview, piss off to social media. Acknowledging that musicians have a massive impact on ourselves and one of our favourite forms of media is pretty fucking core for Sputnik, and always has been.
|
| |
alright let's not give grungil and gordodustin any more attention than they deserve
R.I.P. Mtume, he will be missed.
|
| |
im late but grungil and gordodustin self reporting hard in this thread lmao yikes
|
| |
Only on Sput could someone complain about something completely trivial lol. RIP to Mtume though.
|
| |
may he rest in peace
|

Went through a few of his records and records he's been on. No clue he was as sought out as he was; On the Corner, Big Fun, Get Up With It, Pangaea, Agharta, Dark Magus, Sama Layuca, Asante, Love in us All, etc. Not to mention responsible for some absolutely iconic samples; Juicy, Intro (It's Dark and Hell Is Hot), Coming of Age (Reasonable Doubt), and MTOMB (Feet of Clay).
On top of that he's the son of Jimmy Heath, who played with the likes of Miles, Hubbard, Byrd, Adderley, etc. and they got to play together on multiple records - how fucking cool is that? What an unsung legend...
Also what a weird hill to die on Grungil lol
