New Prince Posthumous Album

2021-04-09 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 16 Comments
A previously unreleased Prince album, recorded in 2010, will be released on July 30th. The title track 'Welcome 2 America' can be streamed below.

Recorded in the spring of 2010 and then mysteriously archived by Prince, the statement album Welcome 2 America documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice. The album features some of Prince’s only studio collaborations with bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, drummer Chris Coleman, and engineer Jason Agel, with additional contributions from New Power Generation singers Shelby J, Liv Warfield, and Elisa Fiorillo and keyboardist Morris Hayes, who Prince also recruited to co-produce the album.

The Deluxe Edition of Welcome 2 America combines the 2LP and CD versions of the album with a never before released Blu-ray of Prince’s full April 28, 2011 performance at The Forum and is presented in 1080p with stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos audio.

I can't imagine being the perfectionist Prince was and then literally months after you die, someone starts releasing all of your rejected tracks. Like, I know his estate just wants money, but can they not see why this would be against his wishes?

Apparently he had like hundreds of unreleased albums and fully completed music videos in his vault.

@panzer If Prince really didn't want it he would have said so previously or in his will. Posthumous albums were nothing new even when he was alive and there's no way Prince wouldn't have at least thought about something like this happening. He probably allowed it to benefit his family/estate after his potential passing.

butt.

imagine seeing an article with "prince" and "posthumous" in the title, on April 9 2021, and it has nothing to do with the prince who died today

I would. If I had old shit like that I would state in my will that my fam can do whatever the fuck they want with it.

Hopefully they would make bank with that shit, even after death my family would still be taken care of with my after-death music. Integrity is for chumps.
