If you're gonna gonna drop a cryptic date in The Heart pt 4 I expect more than a preorder with no tracklist, album name, or album cover when that date comes.

I wish the leaked tracklist was real but the credits don't list D'Angelo, Kanye, Andre or Anderson
Regardless, I'm excited for the possible James Blake (most likely a sample) and Steve Lacy (check out his demo EP) feature.

TheFantasticDangler

ugghhh BBNG? After having fucking thundercat on the last album? Christ.

Those that don't know BBNG called out their Humber professors (incredible musicians) who basically told them theyre shit at jazz (which they are) and they now piggyback on alternative and hip hop artists because they can't do shit in the actual jazz community cause theyre posers

just noticed wikipedia uses a quote from a Sputnik user on their wiki page loooool

dbizzles

Idk, I hope it works out. Their collaboration with Ghostface, especially their contribution, was dope.
Their blend of hip hop and jazz has mostly been working out great for them. I don't know what they said about their professors, but there's a reason they're the professors and BBNG are the students. Sounds like you've got a personal problem, homie.

TheFantasticDangler
April 8th 2017
2059 Comments

I just can't stand them. I have a ton of friends in the Toronto/Hamilton jazz community and a lot of them fucking hate BBNG for thinking theyre better than their Humber professors, so that definitely taints my perspective. Also theyre sloppy af.

lol the ignorance, their Humber professors are on a WHOLE other level than them, professors aren't just teachers, theyre semi-retired prominent NA jazz artists that put BBNG to shame

dbizzles
April 8th 2017
15194 Comments

They've got their own style. Not sure they're trying to rep the Toronto jazz community as purely jazz musicians, but you'd probably know better than me.

dbizzles
April 8th 2017
15194 Comments

And as far as them being sloppy, I can see that complaint on their earlier releases and even at times on their newest, but BBNG III is pretty tight, imo.
I'm not educated in jazz or music theory at all, but I see a difference in that one particularly.

TheFantasticDangler
April 8th 2017
2059 Comments

It wouldn't even be a big deal if they cut out the jazz, theyre awful at it.

dbizzles
April 8th 2017
15194 Comments

I disagree. If they cut out the jazz there would be nothing special about them at all. I'm not a huge jazz fan though so I guess I'm not as critical about their writing/performing.

TheFantasticDangler
April 8th 2017
2059 Comments

^ I can understand that.

dbizzles
April 8th 2017

I'll give you something else we can proabbly agree on lol and that's that BBNG is basically 'jazz' for non-jazz fans.

AlexKzillion
April 8th 2017
17245 Comments

I mean yeah lets just completely ignore the very noticeable jazz influence on Section 80, the album that all the jazz-kendrick haters say is waaaayyy better then tpab

dbizzles
April 8th 2017
15194 Comments

It's not even in the same league dude. Not even close. I don't remember any slam poetry on s80 lol.
And if it is close and I'm just wrong, it's done way better and not a showcase.

AlexKzillion

Its funny because Robert Glasper was all over TPAB. And BBNG are on record saying Glasper is shit (see how stupid they are?).

dbizzles

Lol I hate TPAB, maybe they're right ; ) Let's see how they stack up when this drops haha.

TheFantasticDangler
April 8th 2017
2059 Comments

Kamasi Washington and Thundercat were also on it, incredible musicians that BBNG will never touch. Glasper is on a whole other level than BBNG. But ya I get it you don't know jazz, I'm not even jazz trained I just hang out with so many jazz artists for so long I've absorbed a shit ton through osmosis.

dbizzles
April 8th 2017

I tried a bit to get into jazz more after I started listening to BBNG, but mostly it isn't for me. Gonna try some different types sooner than later though. Not into the super busy stuff. Gives me anxiety.
