zaruyache

well something in the vein of that but expanded upon I suppose. Bring back the meaningful buildup ambient sections and long song runtimes. I didn't like Diadem for its sound quality but I could actually go for something like that now, given their albums have fantastic recording quality now adays.

The only album of theirs I'm not crazy about is Celestial Lineage, which is a pretty average album. Diadem and Black Cascade are pretty much tied for my fav and I love Two Hunters too, but I don't want an exact replica of it by any means.

I'm sure most everyone who calls for a part two of anything ever doesn't want an exact replica of said thing.. Merely a throwback to the quality and themes, perhaps? Honestly though, if they've improved their strictly ambient approach I would be more than ok with that as well. Celestite was pretty ok.

Celestite is a damn good album. I think that might've just been a one time thing unless they decide to return to it at some point in the future, who knows I guess.

Hope so.. I enjoyed Celestite a fair deal more than I did Celestial Lineage. Seems like a move to dark ambient would work out for the better for them. But... who knows, indeed.

Dis_Con_Nec_Ted

Nah that honor belongs to Black Cascade. Celestial Lineage is the most forward-thinking of their releases, with no shortage of the otherworldly atmosphere found on their first two. What it also has in common with the first two (particularly Two Hunters), is that it's more of an album experience than a collection of songs like on Cascade.

Sevengill

Black Cascade seems pretty consistent to me. Celestial was really disjointed, like you get Thuja, then a crapshoot of black metal and experimental sounds for fifteen minutes, then it goes back to Astral Blood, then ends on a long dirge. It's a jarring way to organize the album.

TalonsOfFire

Agreed w/ Dis_Con_Nec_Ted, Celestial Lineage is their best since Diadem and Two Hunters.

zaruyache
February 1st 2016

CL is entirely a collection of songs. You have songs that are wildly different, then a bunch of interludes placed haphazardly between them all. Cascade at least had a consistency of style across its four tracks, whereas each main song on CL seems to want to do its own thing with little regard for the album's flow. "Jarring" is a good word for it.

DungeonBoy

^ Agreed. Celestial Lineage has some great songs, but it doesn't have the same flow as Black Cascade. Celestite isn't a bad album, but I would really like to hear some more black metal from these guys.

Who gives a damn about flow when the album for the most part just is flowing with unmemorable riffs in a wall of sound and consistently is lacking dynamics to make the individual song stand out. To this day I still can only remember that riff or two in Ex Cathedra from the top of my head.
