Haha
| |
Overall this is a pretty good album 4.5/5
| |
AUGH!
| |
GUESS I CAN'T WATCH COLBERT TONIGHT UFFF
edit: No. Not gonna. I'll listen tomorrow. :---/
| |
It's good
| |
Bro it's gonna have three reviews and +40 pages of comments by tomorrow!
| |
nice
| |
I'll keep checking it during the morning at work, don't you worry. I'm jamming Luna now tho and it's sounding pretty Judah-y which is cool. Heavier, though!
| |
the hype is train! >:]
| |
LESS DO THIS NOW
| |
damn. almost finished and it's very, very solid. so incredibly different than Sunbather too which was a good move for them.
| |
this is fuckin top notch
fav tracks are luna, gifts for the earth, and come back
| |
this fucking rules
| |
the songwriting seems to be more interesting so far. more curveballs. sunbather, in all its glory, seems pretty planned out.
| |
would have been really nice if this guy had improved his vocals. even just a little.
| |
that solo in baby blue was so fucking awful
| |
Yeah the vocals sound more scratchy then before to me.
| |
GiFtS FoR tHe EaRtH
| |
Musically though this is a bit more varied with dramatic shifts and texturing.
| |
almost too dramatic...
| |
Instrumentation got a lot more lush and thematic
Vocals kind of went the opposite direction, got a lot more abrasive
Idk how to really feel yet
| |
this is definitely more consistent than sunbather but i can't get over how bad the vocals are, they sound genuinely awful
| |
1 minute in an so good
| |
Yeah agreed noc. The vocalist should of done a lot of stylistic experimenting or at the very least the engineer should of EQ'd the vox better. Wouldn't mind an instrumental version of the album haha
| |
Even the mods are on this shit. Article was approved hella fast. Or do Contribs get automatically approved articles?
| |
Holy shit that transition at 22 minutes in what I assume is "Baby Blue" is fucking perfect, gave me goosebumps.
| |
Bitchin album art
| |
Agreed, the art is amazing.
| |
yeah instrumentally this is not bad. the vox and just the black metal sections in general are just so bleh though.
| |
i don't really have a complaint about the vocals. There are not many moments on this record where the vocals ADD much like they did on Sunbather, but I don't think they sound BAD.
| |
Vocals own on this
| |
they're just so flaccid compared to like every good bm vocalist
| |
i like these vox
| |
glad this is so different from sunbather
| |
Come Back and Gifts For The Earth are ace tracks.
Really happy they didn't try and rehash Sunbather.
| |
Well here we go. How fast to 1000 votes?
| |
which Rolling Stone declared the best metal album of 2013
| |
listening now!!!!!!!!
| |
This is easily the worst of their three albums
The open note chugging seriously sounds like shit. The unnecessary guitar solos suck too
| |
oboyoboy will listen in the morning
| |
not these guys again.
| |
noice
| |
i'll give this a try
| |
solid 3
| |
okay whoops, couldnt wait.
Luna is def the best track so far. last track is pre sick too
just wish the guitars didnt sound so flat, lifeless this time around (tone)
| |
i think its a light 4/5
| |
gelatinous 2.8
| |
Wasn't all that impressed from what I heard, but hey maybe the rest of the record could surprise me :]
| |
loved sunbather. this fucking blows.
| |
I like it but I'm still calling that it'll have a lower rating than Judah. I'm putting my figurative money on a 3.7/5 right now. It won't have the "omg this unknown band is amaze!!" hype that Snbthr got to help drive its hypetrain, and the bm style will (probably) turn off many of the people who liked Snbthr only because of the accessible dreaminess. Just my guess tho.
| |
Album rules, just enjoy the music people and stop worrying about what other people/publications think about it.
| |
sounding pretty great so far
| |
Its aight nothing special tho
Will admit tho that "Brought To The Water" grew on me quite a bit
| |
Made sure to stream this before bed. I dug the whole thing, but need to hear it again. I might like this a little more than Sunbather, but we'll see if that lasts.
| |
uninspired riff salad with horrendous vocals and boring acoustic sections
| |
sounds like your average, run of the mill Opeth record
| |
with the difference that opeth's riffs are awesome, akerfeldt is a superb vocalist and the acoustic sections dont suck ass
| |
Acoustic?
| |
It's okay, 6/5, AOTY
| |
its ok
| |
Luna is a massive track; wall-of-sound in a very good way. Baby Blue is the weak spot here and it doesn't really stand on its own. Being nestled into the middle of the album helps it out. Overall, I'm still really digging this, several spins later.
| |
spoiler, it fucking rules
| |
not really
| |
bummer for you then
| |
Luna is cray good
| |
Feeling a 3 on this right now actually. First 2 tracks are great while the others are either alright at best. Come Back tho is pretty crap
| |
Luna and Gifts for the Earth are really good. Album is nice.
| |
Gonna spend my night jamming this.
| |
people complaining about vocals on a "bm" album, lel
| |
still don't get the collective jizz stain for this band. they aren't doing anything that a million other bm bands have done before them
| |
They write good songs.
| |
An Autumn For Crippled Children and Lantlos write better blackgaze tho
| |
Never heard of them. I must not be elite enough :/
| |
"jam .neon by lantlos now"
yes.
| |
Lantlos are good but they aren't mindblowing
| |
except not ok at all
| |
gifts for the fucking earth!!
| |
Umm yeah MO, bands were doing post-black before Deafheaven but outside of Alcest and Lantlos pretty much none of them got any attention and they weren't note worthy at all. It blew up after Judah.
| |
^ agreed.
| |
yayyyy Lantlos love
| |
as much hate as this band gets, I'm sure they had no idea they'd blow up into such a stigmatized band amongst black metal purists when they released sunbather. I saw them live (with Alcest) pre-sunbather and there wasn't an ounce of pretentiousness, just a bunch of dudes playing their own style of black metal.
| |
"are you kidding dude? jam .neon by lantlos now"
Doing.
| |
well they do wear black gloves now on stage ^^
| |
Cant believe there isn't a review for this yet!
| |
honestly i think the best blackgaze record is woods of desolation - torn beyond reason, takes a lot of the major key stuff from deafheaven but it's much darker, very anthemic too
lantlos and aafcc are great too though ofc
| |
le secret, .neon, torn beyond reason/as the stars, and dying away in the deep fall are the definitive records in the style imo.
| |
S'alright
| |
Can't wait to jam this.
| |
Luna fucking destroyed me holy shit.
| |
the moments of wall-of-sound despair are fucking incredible on that track
| |
Gifts for the Earth is awesome too.
The only thing that I don't like about the album is the wah-wah solo in Come Back, but that's not a major complaint. Everything else lives up to the expectations I had.
| |
"honestly i think the best blackgaze record is woods of desolation - torn beyond reason"
I'd have a really hard time deciding my favorite post-bm record but that one's definitely in the top running. If anyone else hasn't heard it yet (or Lantlos) get on that after you finish jamming Bermuda.
| |
This is why I love Sputnik.
I just listened to that Lantlos album and it is fantastic.
Thanks, guys.
| |
Luna is pretty damn awesome
| |
So this album rules hard, even more than I expected tbh. Vox slay too idk what Noctus is talking about.
| |
dbizzles listen to Melting Sun too, not really any BM on it but its great. Everything by them is great really.
Agree about the vocals Hawks.
| |
can't wait to laugh at people for liking this
| |
Good music is pretty funny shit
| |
Not sure how I feel about this. It's definitely not anywhere close to Sunbather
| |
I wish I was elite enough to laugh at peoples' inferior tastes in music. Damn.
| |
Baby Blue is so bad
| |
It's not better than Sunbather, but it's not too far off for me tbh.
| |
I really like the first three tracks. Don't like the lack of energy on baby blue.
Still a good album, I'm enjoying it.
| |
I was liking this before I had to get up to get the door
| |
phenomenal. if sunbather was 5 for me, this is a 4.5. Listening at home through my old band's PA system. sounds huge.
| |
It seems like no one likes baby blue, I thought that one was pretty cool
| |
I dig Baby Blue.
| |
Listening to this now.
| |
Luna is the best trackx5
| |
the solo in baby blue is a crime against humanity. George should've slapped the guitar out of his hands after he showed them that.
| |
The opening track still pretty much sucks.
| |
Sunbather is an easy 5, and this is a strong 4.5.
| |
Damn, loving this so far!
| |
Wiz are you ok?
From my impression this doesn't seem like you'd be into this at all haha.
| |
