that robotic guitar sound sounds like shit
|
| |
Well the vocalist sounds way better on here than most of SKyharbors newest cd, but imo its pretty cheesy
|
| |
Dan is cool but I think this is a bit of a step down vocally, song still sounds great instrumental/production wise.
|
| |
Thought the guitars sounded sick tbh. Actually liking this more than the new Uneven Structure song
|
| |
This is awful
|
| |
it's a sad day for tesseract
|
| |
Thhis sounds really off to me. Like there is a layer of bass letting no treble escape.
And the vocals are cool but it sounds like there is some sort of effect on them, light distortion? Idk it sounds off
|
| |
first bit of vocals is ruined w that shit tier filter, overall he kills it as always
song's a fair bit too short, too simple for tesseract tho
|
| |
picks up in the 2nd half but still pretty disappointing
|
| |
Not sure how I feel about the vocal filter. It certainly works better in some spots than others. In the context of the album it'll probably be for variety's sake.
Other than that the song is FANTASTIC! I love it more every time I hear it.

WORLDS!

I could have written this song and it wouldn't have even been hard.
I love Dan, but Ashe was a much better fit for this sound. And there's really no excuse for this song.
|
| |
is this djent?
|
| |
it's djent trying way to hard to sound like djent
|
| |
"it's djent trying way to hard to sound like djent"
This is so spot on. Tesseract have never really played to this sound... and it's not working here.
|
| |
I always liked Dan's vocals more than Ashe's but I gotta agree he doesn't totally fit the direction they're going in now.
|
| |
didnt mind the guitar tone, but the singer isn't as good as the last guy. good thing I only listened to this band last album or i may be disappointed too
|
| |
There's nothing inherently wrong with the tone, but the riffs are boring, tbh.
|
| |
Atomic waste that's a ridiculous comment. I doubt your execution would be anywhere near the quality that the five collective members of this band accomplished here. If it is, prove it.
|
| |
Oh shit son, you've been called out.
Anyways, this is just so... there. Definitely having a lot of trouble appreciating it.
|
| |
"I doubt your execution would be anywhere near the quality that the five collective members of this band accomplished here."
lol quality thats a good one
|
| |
feel like applicable is joking

critics must be objectively better musicians than who they're critiquing. /s
|
| |
anyway liking the song after a few listens
dan is honestly woW x100
|
| |
This is really boring. The singer could be cool if there wasn't that weird muffled effect on it. The riffs are whatever, I've heard all this djent shit before. Guitar tone's annoying. Yeah, I'm not a fan at all
|
| |
"There's nothing inherently wrong with the tone, but the riffs are boring, tbh."
As if these guys were really known for their riffs. I like this song but it's definitely not their best.
|
| |
One is by far the best this band has done and will likely do.
|
| |
[2]
|
| |
yeah unfortunately
|
| |
"If you can, prove it."
Here is a thing I did: https://soundcloud.com/atomicwaste/tom-gerhart-despair
I teetered back and forth with posting anything because I don't really feel this is the place for it, but I kinda asked for it. Now I wait for the "Song is shit lolbutts" shoutbox comments!
"As if these guys were really known for their riffs."
They're certainly not known for having bad riffs.
"One is by far the best this band has done and will likely do."
I really enjoyed Altered State, probably moreso than One, actually.
|
| |
why the fuck would anyone listen to a boring meshuggah
|
| |
"They're certainly not known for having bad riffs."
Well I meant any memorable riffs at all, good or bad, but that is true as well.
|
| |
"why the fuck would anyone listen to a boring meshuggah"
pretty much hit the entire djent movement right on the head
|
| |
AtomicWaste not sure what posting that song proves. You said you could have written THIS song. The brunt of my point is that you simply would not write the same song as them because you are not them. The fact that your track lacks vocals of any kind further proves my point.
Second of all, I also called your execution into question. Regardless if you have the technical chops to play TesseracT songs, you certainly do not have the ability to produce and mix a song to quality TesseracT has.
As one fellow musician to another, the track you posted was good. It's not TesseracT would write though.
|
| |
Static you need to chill. People disagree on the internet all the time.
"holy shit lol you are beyond retarded" is a juvenile attempt to try to discredit my point. Perhaps you should be more constructive about why you disagree, otherwise I wouldn't bother if I were you.
|
| |
you know just because he can't make music better than what this band delivers doesn't mean he can't have the right to criticize them.
|
| |
I totally agree TuneDude. It was not my intention to remove his right to criticize the band. Nor do I want to communicate that his music is objectively worse.
I simply was responding to his initial comment which I felt was somewhat outrageous.
|
| |
I think what he meant to say (and correct me if I'm wrong) was that the song was too basic, that the style and overall instrumental work have been done before so many times that he could copy-paste other material and turn it into a song of similar quality.
|
| |
00-000000-0-000-00-00000

Most of your revision is a fair assessment in my opinion. Had AtomicWaste said that, I wouldn't have looked twice.
I still believe that this music is more difficult to pull off than the people in this thread are giving it credit for. If it really were that simple, everyone and their dog would signed to a record label and be playing the venues that TesseracT do.
|
| |
You're wrong. Most of us don't settle for making mindless trash.
|
| |
I dunno man. I wouldn't call this mindless. I'd say this music is more thought provoking and introspective than 90% of the stuff out there.
|
| |
Reviewers out there saying that the album is TesseracT's best work to date. This song leaves something to be desired for me. Technically speaking it's one of Tess' more 'basic' songs. There are still some drum parts that took me awhile to wrap my head around and of course Dan's vocal lines are mental.
Hopefully this song will work a lot better in context of the album.
|
| |
@non: sure
|
| |
this was leaked like a week ago technically, I had the same assumptions as most people but it grew on me a little.
"Reviewers out there saying that the album is TesseracT's best work to date."
Well they are getting paid to review it
|
| |
they're not getting paid to review it positively tho
|
| |
you sure about that?
|
| |
same question
|
| |
not the response I was expecting :-P
|
| |
why would you get paid to negatively review something rofl
|
| |
uhm
|
| |
btw this thread is already cancer
"eww djent, just listen to meshuggah" = cancer
"hurr hater why dont u play someting better djent is awsome" = cancer

your stupidity astounds me
|

You essentially called me out as a musician, then asked me to prove my musicianship, hence the post. I was dumb for taking the bait, but whatever - I've had some things eating at me lately and I felt like stepping up to the plate.
I'm not sure what you're trying to prove other than the invalidity of a novel phrase used symbolically to indicate the lack of flavor or soul with the piece in question, though.
|
| |
band sucks agreed
|
| |
why do all djent threads here turn to garbage...
too much dick wagging. "lol i am legit musician and i am angry user Static"
|
| |
the fuck happened to this thread holy fuck
The reason why this thread sucks is because the majority of sputnik's member base spreads negativity. I have loved this site for years because I have always come here to love and discover new music. I bet most of the cynicism on this site comes from 16 year old boys and people with shitty lives needing a release.

That's a convoluted sentence!
Look man, I liked your song. I even hearted the track on soundcloud. Is it as polished as TesseracT's music or other major label songs? No, But that's the point. Unless you make music for a living, I'm not expecting that level of polish or execution. I'm not trying to put down your music. Like I said, it's great! I am just asking you to be realistic.
I blame NonApplicable
ToonDude I thought we had an understanding =,(

Sputnik is the best place to make new fwends!
|
| |
your stupidity astounds me
'dont u dare insult my albumz'
|
| |
I have always loved the shit out of tesseract, but this song was kinda shitty and boring
|
| |
This song just furthers my belief that Ashe is a better singer and fit for the band. Fan sounds a lot blander and sucks at writing vocal melodies.
|
| |
hey non applicable I think he was just satirizing you for how professional you come off when you write. Most people here are decently smart, but we all prefer talking like "yo this song str8 butts me mum shits on that guitar holy shit sucks"
|
| |

Or you can't accept something just isn't that good.
It's like telling someone their shitty painting is a masterpiece just because they made a really nice one before.
The song isn't total shit but they have proven they can do better.
|
| |
"The song isn't total shit but they have proven they can do better."
Nailed it. That's pretty much what I said too.
|
| |
Maybe y'all should wait until the album's released, I'm pretty sure this will sound better with a whole album to accompany it
|
| |
I hope so, I enjoy a lot of the stuff they put out.
|
| |
Well I honestly really like it. So at least this shitty painting pleases someone.
|
| |
cool song with cool ideas and cool vocals.
Grooves in this song are nice and the electronic elements fits the overall sound and songwriting very good. Enjoy this more than Altered State so far ... in my opinion Dan is THE MAN for Tesseract, and he always was.
|
| |
I like Dan more than Ashe but both were good vocalists for the band.
|
| |
It djents I guess
|
| |
band is shite, always has been
|
| |
i could never like all this djent stuff. i hate how plastic the instruments sound, especially percussions and guitar and just as worse is this trend to do photoshopped cover art. funnily this applies to 90% of all bands who want to be part of this scene. horrible sheep
|
| |
rofl
|
| |
[2] acle kahney is such a sheep even tho he was in fellsilent and pioneered the scene
|
| |
It's a nice looking video, at least.
|
| |
Wold have been eh with Ashe, but it suuucks with Dan. The vocal filter sucks, the riff is boring, and the whole song sounds forced. Time to listen to Altered State
|
| |
if I read these lyrics without the music id be rolling my eyes so hard.
|
| |
Well once people are used to a band putting out really good shit, a so-so song will just feel like it plain sucks in comparison
|
| |
i've only heard altered state but i'm not expecting anything other than decent background music from these guys. also, I do not like this singer at all compared to the last guy, what's the point of him leaving in the first place if he's just going to come back.
|
| |
Well I honestly really like it. So at least this shitty painting pleases someone.
As long as you're happy
|
| |
'what's the point of him leaving in the first place if he's just going to come back'
Dan was about have a child so he left but there was always the idea that maybe they'd get back together somewhere down the line when he was in a more stable place in his life.
Song has really grown on me throughout the past few days. I wonder if anything on Polaris will be as good as Eden.
|
| |
April was probably my favorite of that album.
|
| |
i thought this thread would be a good ride but you all have to get so serious over this shit
imo this song is lazily written but gets a bit better towards the end
|
| |
People should stop freaking out. This is not a great standalone song, and that's of no surprise since the rumor is that it was leaked and so they forced it out as their single when that was not the original plan. It's alright. It's short and feels like a buildup to something. I bet within it's context in album it's a lot better.
