Sucks....
| |
probably would have been shit anyway
| |
Sucks hard, Slackerfeldt ffs.
| |
so sad, tragic even
| |
We can find a better adjective.
| |
This I can deal with. I was afraid the news would be that they'd suffered another member leaving during recording, or that it was somehow canceled altogether.
| |
The only true issue I had with Heritage was that production was funky sounding. If they work on that and the music truly is more melodic then hell, I'm stoked as fuck and am willing to wait
| |
The fan reaction on facebook when the pre-order/single didn't arrive was quite something.
| |
BigPleb even started a riot in his beloved Liverpool. here's some photo evidence:

omg you fucking cry babies it's delayed like a month or two big deal
| |
Probably just means the master was a pile of poo.
| |
Fucking Tool is now delaying Opeth's albums too?!
| |
everything is fucking ruined forever fuck
| |
Its 2 months not really that bad.
I just dont get it; why announce an exact release date even when said date is impossible to meet?
| |
Disappointment delayed.
I listened to him talk about this album in an interview and he pretty much said he's done with metal.
Doesn't want to start a new band because there are Opeth fans who will buy whatever he releases so he can sustain a new musical masturbation adventure.
| |
Well, as long as it turns out good. I was only slightly into Heritage. It felt like background music for a 1970's porno at times and the only song I really really liked was Face In The Snow. Kinda hoping for some heavy stuff again.
| |
Sad news? Shit happens.
| |
fuck this bullshit fuck this cruel world
| |
NOOOOO THAT'S MY BIRTHDAY I DON'T WANT A SMELLY OPETH ALBUM RELEASED ON MY BIRTHDAY
| |
I mean holy vacants leaked so whatever 2014 is over. I mean new Boris may be #2 and brand new could release something
but aoty is pretty much done.
| |
The only true issue I had with Heritage was that production was funky sounding.
Heritage has great production, the drums in particular sound perfect.
| |
"Doesn't want to start a new band because there are Opeth fans who will buy whatever he releases so he can sustain a new musical masturbation adventure."
lol
| |
Heritage has plenty of serious problems as an album, but the production definitely isn't one of them.
| |
classic jt post
| |
"It felt like background music for a 1970's porno at times "
You mean like when Yes scored a porno called "Yes! Yes! Yes!"?

This is nothing. The Antlers will release the best album of their career.
| |
i can tell Familiars is definitely a grower. it hasnt hit me yet but i have a feeling it will.
| |
yep, its fuckin hitting me.
| |
sad news for opeth's frontman
i am going to kill him

| |
i dont really care that it got delayed, i mean im sure itll be good but i think Opeth's golden days are over, and there are a lot of other awesome releases coming out between now and then, so. i can wait.
| |
They're barely even opeth anymore. I liked heritage a lot, but almost everyone's new except mikael and everything is completely different. I think opeth died 5 years ago and this is essentially his solo stuff, sort of paralleling what Steven Wilson's been doing instead of porcupine tree
| |
Maybe this new one'll be a return to form in some way
| |
oh no
| |
heh. Opeth fan rage.
| |
suicide
| |
sounds like it's gonna sound more like they're supposed to
shut the fuck up
| |
Album is gonna suck anyway, this full prog direction they keep going in is stupid. Its like Watershed was their last good album.
| |
^lol
| |
That one review that came out made this sound pretty cool, though. I want to hear a single before abandoning this record.
| |
Patience is a virtue. I'm not even gonna get in these silly "Opeth should've stayed the course vs. Opeth is doing the right thing" debates, they get old.
| |
fuck life im staring at the wall for the next 2 months slowpeth and slowdrunner needs to know they ruined my life
| |
What if Opeth pulls a Metalocalypse and deletes the album because it wasn't "pretentious" enough.
| |
awww tough luck

At least they're releasing two new singles now

Not surprised.

Anybody that doubts Opeth's ability to create quality nonmetal music hasn't heard Damnation.
| |
That was once over 10 years ago it's doubtful it'll happen again
| |
Good things come to those who wait.
Hopefully.
| |
I just miss serious, somber sounding Opeth. Watershed and Heritage have out of place, quirky moments that just don't feel like Opeth at all. Also those albums lacked that certain "Opethy" atmosphere that was on all of their prior albums. Also WAY too much proggy wankery going on. Oh, and those godawful album covers. The end.
| |
Ghost reveries had weird moments too, like the beginning of beneath the mire and parts of the grand conjuration
| |
True, but at least that album still had a good amount of classic sounding Opeth. Just with a slight twist. I think that album was brilliant actually and a great way to show that they could still be Opeth with different elements thrown in.
| |
Yeah that's second only to BP imo. IM SO ORIGINAL ARENT I
But watershed had classic opeth, heir apparent and hessian peal are creepy as fuck. And coil and hex omega are foreboding too
| |
"Anybody that doubts Opeth's ability to create quality nonmetal music hasn't heard Damnation."
Or Heritage, seeing as that's better than Damnation.
Also the prog styles on Heritage and Watershed aren't really wanky at all for the most part.
| |
Opeth have never sinned of wankery imo, unlike other prog-metal bands. One of the reasons why they rule as a band.
| |
All of Fred's guitar solos are pretty much unlistenable spasms of notes.
| |
True they may not be as "wanky" as most prog bands, but it's still there. Admittedly most is probably due to the newest drummer and guitarist that were on those albums. Still it's very un-Opeth like. Even Mikael's vocals are full on cheese at times too haha.
| |
Obviously it's their band and they can do whatever they want with what music they make (and I loved Heritage), but it is a shame that their signature sound that made them so famous and loved is gone forever just because he can't growl anymore
| |
thats ruff
| |
If it's another shitty 70's progressive pop album, they should scrap it.

Watershed was plenty somber and serious. and oh no, theyre experimenting and putting weird shit in there. how do you even like prog if you cant appreciate some weirdness? also, Watershed's album cover is objectively awesome. i like Heritage's album cover but yeah. Watershed's isnt up for debate.
| |
"If it's another shitty 70's progressive pop album"
did you just call Heritage "progressive pop"?
| |
Fucking Roadrunner...
Heritage was just so passive and uninspired. Technically good, but zero feeling. I'm hoping this one leaks has a bit more passion in it.

article title sounds like the LP lost a loved one

There is nothing wanky about Axenrot's drumming. His performance on Heritage is the best drum performance to ever grace an Opeth album imo. There's plenty of groove and feeling in Axe's playing.
| |

Listen to it again. Opeth have released other albums that fit that discription (passive and uninspired) more than Heritage imo.
| |
Well, that sucks.
Oh well, shit happens.

I am just as disappointed as the rest of you from the move away from classic death metal Opeth, that being said, you should approach whatever comes out with an open mind, because its still going to be musically very sound. Mikael commented, after working on the Storm Corrosion project with Steven Wilson that he wanted to use real instruments, real strings, real horns, because of the audible differences. This is what making music is all about, experimentation, precision, and vision. I loved Death Metal Opeth just as much as the rest of you, I think I've listened to Blackwater Park more times than I can count, but if we can just accept that it won't be a death metal album, I think we may find we thoroughly enjoy this new Opeth material.
| |
also, am super bummed that its postponed, its one of the things I've been most excited, and nervous about this year. That and new Mastodon.
| |
I am just as disappointed as the rest of you from the move away from classic death metal Opeth
Some of us aren't disappointed at all.
| |
I wish they'd continue making metal opeth records but still have the new direction sounding ones as his solo albums
| |
Not too pumped for this anyway so they can reschedule indefinitely for all I care. Think I'll give MAYH a jam today.
| |
only hipsters hate on Opeth
get your elitist panties out your ass and you'll come to realize how immense their career was, is, and will be in the future
| |
if that track by track review that came out a while back is any indication, this will be awesome
| |
The problem with Heritage wasn't that it was a prog album, it's that it wasn't good. For a band I love this much, I'm not willing to write them off based on one misstep. Even if they're done from here, I'm not going to shit on a band that gave me 15 years of great music.
2 month delay is NBD but I wonder if it happened because the label vetoed the mix.
| |
yeah man i agree with that first paragraph hard.
| |
Couldn't disagree more. The music on Heritage is better than a lot of their other material.
| |
While I find your persistence hilarious I think we all already know where you stand on this issue.
And no, Heritage is a meandering, directionless mess.
| |
lol
| |
lol ok if you say so.
| |
Yeah, fuck the Heritage debate, it leads nowhere.
| |
heritage rules. take your elitism and gtfo
| |
Here we go again. The Heritage rules vs. Heritage sux debate...
| |
nah, not getting into that. he just isn't a true opeth fan
