I may be in the minority here but I thought this was dreadful. What happens when a supergroup of
progressive metal guys get together? You get generic metal, apparently.
Edit* I think my biggest problem may be that Greg's influence is no where to be found. This sounds
nothing like Dillinger.. at all.
|
| |
This is disappointing
|
| |
the wings track was kinda generic but face down rules
lol @ dreamagain ben writes all dillinger's songs greg just does the lyrics
|
| |
well thats prob not ENTIRELY true but its mostly ben that does the music
|
| |
I thought the first song was a cool and really like the chorus though Max's verse felt pretty shoved in. The second grabbed me less but they sound more cohesive on it. I don't think these songs are amazing but I enjoyed them.
I've seen on other sites people saying they're disappointed because it doesn't sound exactly how they thought it would or not enough like their favourite band out of DEP/Mastodon/Sepultura/TMV but what would be the point of making a new group to make something that sounds just like something they do in their own bands?
|
| |
I like the songs. There does seem to be an element of variety in there and each of the 3 vocalists get their moments. Also I'm surprised by Greg's abilities on guitar.
|
| |
I can dig this.
|
| |
Pretty lame tbh
|
| |
Yeah that was bland. I just finished Face Down and I can't even remember what Wings of Feather and Wax sounded like. I didn't have very high expectations considering Cavalera's involvement, but this somehow still underwhelms.
|
| |
Damn, Greg got WAYYYYYY less jacked.
With regards to the songs I dug em, nothing amazing but they both riffed pretty hard. Greg and Troy in particular sounds fantastic on vocals.
|
| |
wow those songs are such a mess. but there were some parts I enjoyed. gotta love the vocals
|
| |
"Wings of Feather and Wax" somehow reminds me a bit of The Damned Things, except a lot less fun. "Face Down" is actually pretty much what I expected this project to end up sounding like.
|
| |
listening again now, "Wings..." is like typical American hard rock/metal band shit like 5FDP or something but "Face Down" rocks hard.
|
| |
'"Wings of Father and Wax" somehow reminds me a bit of The Damned Things, except a lot less fun.'
Damn, I'm the only one who thought Greg sounded like Keith then haha.
|
| |
1st song is a good hard rock song but Face Down rocks.
|
| |
I completely agree about the first track-on par with a hard rock 5FDP-esque song. The second song was definitely more of what I imagined of the band. At the very least, the two songs together show some cohesion, so I still will jam this when it drops.
|
| |
It sounded different than I expected in the end, I'm quite pleased with both tracks but like always Cavalera shoves in his generic Soulfly esque verse and it doesn't fit. I'm still holding out hope for the rest of the album though.
|
| |
I'm digging both of these songs a lot. I'm surprised how accessible and catchy these tracks are. I was expecting something way more aggressive, abrasive, and noisy. I also like that it doesn't sound like Max wrote these lyrics. Way less "jump da fuck up" than anticipated. I'm interested.
|
| |
I think Wings of Feather and Wax sounds awesome. To each his own.
|
| |
Came because Puciato.
Left because Cavalera.
|
| |
If anything it does show that the album is going to be pretty varied, most people saying they prefer this song or that because they both sound pretty different. It does make it hard to judge what the rest of the album will be like.
|
| |
MPD as demonstrated here would indicate there might be a lack of direction on the album, as opposed to controlled variety.
|
| |
Kinda shocked, since when is Greg Puciato a really competent guitarist?
|
| |
eww, the chorus is dude-rock as fuck.
|
| |
"Dude-rock"
new favourite derogatory genre
|
| |
I expected something more experimental, but I'm still liking this, especially the multiple vocalists.
|
| |
This was super cool! I think everyone is just down on it because they were expecting something in particular. I'm very much enjoying the varied vocal styles here. The guitar work is competent but unfortunately is the week point(for me).
|
| |
Came because Puciato.
Left because Cavalera.

|
| |
Face Down is actually pretty good though. Wings of Feather and Wax is not very enjoyable at all.
|
| |
First song was meh, Face Down was fucking awesome.
|
| |
Cavalera parts just fuck the song up! Other than that it's pretty enjoyable. Really did like troy and greg's voices working together!
|
| |
This isn't exactly what I was expecting but I like it. Cool song.
|
| |
Why is it that everyone submits articles like they got their basic English skills from Borat? It's "new (band) song", not "(band) new song"
|
| |
because seeing this on the home page looks silly
• New (band) Tour
• New (band) track
• New (band) song
• New (band) Single
• New (band) Album
• New (band) songs
• New (band) Video
|
| |
That's lack of imagination/creativity
|
| |
I can only assume new Mastodon album is done if Troy is dicking around with this sort of underwhelming side project. Only part I really enjoyed were Greg's vocals, and the drumming was pretty tight also.
|
| |
This would be a badass live song....i think the chorus is pretty weak, but the rest of it was cool
|
| |
Wow, why did this have to happen?
I guess they need more $
|
| |
The thing is, like someone said above, if you take away Cavalera's parts, this isn't that bad at all.
|
| |
I don't think they're in it for money. Soulfly, TDEP and Mastodon are all doing pretty well, especially the latter two. Greg kept bugging Max to do a Nailbomb-esque project, and then they opted to do this for a bit of fun. Max is already busy enough rotating between Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy while TDEP and Mastodon have been pretty busy too so this is likely to be just an album release, one or two festivals shows then over with with minimal merchandise.
|
| |
Hmm well with that in mind then why? Just for the fun of playing together?
I'd seriously rather listen to them do Neil Young covers, this is atrocious and does nothing but shame all parties involved.
|
| |
Shades of Them Crooked Vultures...
|
| |
For a site that complains about hating Greg and Mastodon in general so much, you all seem pretty butthurt about them sucking...
Personally I enjoyed them both, altho Facedown a bit more than Wings
|
| |
shut the fuck up
|
| |
I is butthurt, these musicians should know better.
|
| |
face down was pretty cool jed, thought you would have liked that one
|
| |
Atreyu?
|
| |
Shit talk aside, I expected a different sound and didn't care for either song.
I've heard plenty about Icarus and wings of wax...
|
| |
Pretty late to the party, but I enjoyed these songs. Fast-paced and fun as hell. But yeah, as others mention, Max's parts aren't on par
|
| |
Well the first song is dreadful, generic metal at its worst, the second song kinda rocks but musically it is totally uninteresting. I put the blame for that on cavalera, because I guess he's is the primary songwriter here... however this is very disappointing. gregs vocals are amazing as usual, dave elitch delivers as usual but apart from that totally boring.
