I know that some of the users already made lists as a tribute to Lou Reed, but I felt a news article would be an appropriate addition as well. Also, like in my Ray Manzarek article, I was thinking that as a tribute to Lou Reed we could post youtube links of our favourite songs by him in the comments sections.

:-( That poopy album with Metallica was the last thing he did (unless you count his guest vocals on
Metric's album last year).

Alluding to a tasteless joke that hasn't been made yet is still tasteless

71 is not bad for what he did to his body, but it still seems too young, RIP hard
|
| |
This sucks, RIP. He seemed a lot better in the past few months and wanted to work on a new record as far as I know. I am not Reed's biggest fan, but he influenced a lot of bands and genres.
Here's one of the tracks I like most. "Vicious" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM9JG-oQm1Y

So glad that somebody else posted an article. Mine sucked haha
Anyways, RIP.
|
| |
I'm a big fan of his work with Velvet Underground. I actually believe that his days with the band were the very best of his career. Afterwards, he went solo, which I believe is very mediocre.
Anyways....
RIP

solo was not mediocre
he had transformer

I'm a little ashamed at how much this made me laugh
|
| |
"solo was not mediocre

Ok, so lets say one or two classic albums and about 15-16 mediocre albums. Is that a good analogy for a superb solo career ?
|
| |

I actually never listened to Velvet Underground.

if you're whining about lulu, you probably aren't a fan of lou reed in the first place.
|
| |
I tried to get into him and Velvet Underground for a while, never really saw the draw though my brother would argue that for hours. That said, any fan of classic rock has heard one of his songs on the radio, and his influence on rock music is undeniable, so Rock in Peace, Lou.
|
| |
Everybody has bad albums, but the fact that Lulu was his last kinda ends his career in a sour note
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
hearing this sucks the world just lost one of it's last true artist! R.I.P. Lou you are Loved & will
be missed!

RIP

RIP

It fucking sickens me that people are whining about Lulu. Yeah it was bad but artists who push the
envelope like Lou Reed are bound to have one or two stinkers. If you think Lulu's dreadful, try
listening to Metal Machine Music - making it through that is the ultimate tribute. However, to suggest
these duds have stained him and his legacy shows complete ignorance to the impact he's had on music.
|

I've only made it through 15 mins of MMM

Huge inspiration and The Velvet Underground's influence in Rock will always live on.

We just all collectively agree that it was an abomination of a musical endeavour and hence why we whine about it. No one is saying that it ruined his career or whatever exaggeration you're trying to place on us.
|

rip
|

RIP Lou. Was watching the movie "Blue in the Face" not too long ago and he was hilarious in it, in
subtle, off-beat kind of way. Gonna have to go back and listen to TVU and Transformer again.

kill's comments make the thread lol

R.I.P.
|
| |
I was never much of a fan, but I've always respected him for overcoming his personal vices and being a pioneer. R.I.P.
|
| |
Sad to see such an important musician pass on. Such a shame that the last work he left us with was garbage...
|
| |
Jamming White Light/White Heat right now
|
| |
How anyone could think of his solo career as mediocre is beyond me. I personally prefer it to The Velvet Underground. Berlin is an absolute masterpiece, Transformer is the pinnacle of glam, The Blue Mask is one of the better 80's rock records out there, and Street Hassle has aged quite well in retrospect.
|
| |
Damn shame. Lou Reed is a legend
|
| |
Obligatory "I blame Lars" jokes aside...
RIP.
|
| |
Well this is just shitty. R.I.P.
|
| |
Humanity's personality pool just dipped a few inches.
|
| |
i completely tore him apart in my lulu review, but lou reed has always been a favorite of mine. his solo career is massive, and he helped influence so many artists with his music. he will be missed.
RIP
ps: good tribute, hernan
|
| |
RIP man, White Light/White Heat is a masterpiece
On an unrelated note, long time no see Hernan, good to see you're still kicking around.

Hey, man. How's life? Yeah school has been draining all of my energy lately, plus I got a job, but I'm hoping to start writing stuff again. I got some obligations that I need to turn in here this week, so I'll see you around.

There goes one of the most influential musicians to have ever lived. It's a shame that Lulu was the last thing he ever did, but it's not like his legacy was really affected by it.
Jamming Berlin and Transformer. R.I.P.
