Pretty damn awesome, didn't know what to expect with Tilian on vocals. Live performances gave a bit of an impression, but this is great and I'm looking forward to the album.

rules
| |
next album: Tilian leaves, Kellin Quinn takes over.
| |
Yeah I was worried this guy might be awkwardly forced into trying to be like Jonny (which Kurt kind of did on the first album with him) but he sounds comfortable in the role and this rules.
| |
Like I expected, its fucking awesome.
| |
Love it, already sounding better than DBMII. Pumped.
| |
now that's nice.
| |
When is Karma gonna get DGD? They ditch Kurt for Jonny Craig and we all know how that turned out and now Tilian drops in their lap and turns their music to a whole new level of good.
| |
pretty stoked for this sounded great
| |
I like dance gavin dance a lot better without jonny craig.. just realizing this. DBMII wasnt bad but I liked happiness more and it looks like from this single ill like this more as well.
| |
Yeah, this might beat happiness.
| |
I don't usually care about lyrics but what the fuck was that shit
| |
good song, but anyone else just kinda playing tilians parts but with jonny's vocals in their heads?
| |
I wish this album came out during the summer so I can blast it out my window in glee. Can't do that where I am in early winter/late fall times.
| |
love this song. will buy the album if it's anything like this. hopefully we get another single before the album is released.
| |
song was better than expected. am I the only one that thought the cleans sounded a little over produced though?
| |
YES YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE!!!!!!
| |
maybe it's my shitty laptop quality lol.
| |
I've seen that been said a couple times, I really don't see how the song could be about Jonny at all. I think Tilian is a great fit.
| |
Really liking this. I am relieved.
| |
"girl don't be so difficult come here let's get physical." that's about Jonny alright.
| |
^ you took that from one of the top comments lol
| |
beyond fucking excited for this
| |
lol you caught me.
| |
i think tilian could be the best vocalist they've had yet, as far as talent goes, but i think he's
plenty fitting with the group, despite the more out there personalities of jonny and kurt. jon brings
plenty of wacky material with his lyrics, which i fucking LOVE in this song. i think there's too much
going on with the rest of the group for tilian to ruin the feel of their material anyway. especially
when he's so good at what he does.
| |
IDK, it feels a lot like a combination of DBM2 and Happiness.
| |
he's the best live vox out of the 3. jonny runs out of gas after a few sets
| |
Way better than DTBM2 already...
| |
Surprisingly good.
| |
I think I like this band now.
| |
best song since dbm1
his voice is gonna have to grow on me though
| |
"come here let's get physical" sounds exactly like jonny
| |
just the sexualization of the lyrics, nothing more really.
| |
it's a little less forward than "We gonna fuk tonight"
| |
the tone does
| |
will never not love this band. i mean unless jonny craig comes back
| |
does anyone actually dislike this band?
| |
wow, really good
| |
Great song, and easily the best executed lyrics video I've seen yet.
| |
I feel so, sooooo happy after listening to this. DGD still has it, and Tilian sounds fucking great.
| |
next album: Tilian leaves, Kellin Quinn takes over.
Please no.
good song, but anyone else just kinda playing tilians parts but with jonny's vocals in their
heads?
I tried imagining it but they both have such different voices it's hard to picture Johnny singing
it.
song was better than expected. am I the only one that thought the cleans sounded a little
over produced though?
His voice sounds really cool but it does sound a bit overproduced
Overall, I enjoyed it. something about Tillian's voice in the song sounds awesome
| |
Was anxiously anticipating this, now I'm full on excited, 2 and a half months wait still.
| |
I dug it, much more mainstream approach
| |
happiness is their best so far
| |
this is pretty good.
| |
This just keeps getting better with each listen. Tilian does sound a bit over produced though. So keen for this album however, hopefully it kicks ass.
| |
yeah.
| |
Yeah okay
| |
that part in the middle, the climax of the track, makes me want to listen to dreamhouse. this was good. the chorus wasn't my favorite it but it's nice that they only repeated it once.
| |
kinda dig it.
| |
Pretty good.
| |
Oh, so they have a female clean vocalist now... cool.
Song was pretty good.
| |
will rule
| |
mess god
| |
Really good song, I'm satisfied. Stoked for the new record.
Tilian actually does fit in pretty well, and Mess got way better at screaming
| |
"a lot of the lyrics could be directed towards him. especially the line about syringes considering the dudes a junkie. "
they've had plenty of drug-related lyrics before throughout their discog
| |
Better than with Johnny...still irrelevant
| |
not diggin the new vocalist atleast from this song
| |
hey guise it sounds even better when you don't watch the video and only listen to the song
| |
I've been listening to it almost nonstop since yesterday and I've got to say it's already grown on me. I keep discovering new things with every listen still, I can't wait for this album!
Also, at the person saying ''Tilian leaves, Kellin Quinn next'', they did an acoustic version of Uneasy Hearts with him once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KxFn6hV9Rk
| |
That was slightly disappointing
| |
the guitar work during the chorus made me jazz
| |
Somehow I've never gotten into this band. Where do I start?
| |
Downtown Battle Mountain is essential.. then Happiness. those are their two best albums.
| |
The S/T is incredible as well. I think the musical direction they went with Kurt Travis as their vocalist was awesome. This song sounds more like that, which I like a lot.
| |
As people have said before me the "physical" is very reminiscent of what Jonny would do - albeit with less distortion - not that I am surprised, as Jonny's quirks are very pleasurable to listen to, so them having Tillian use distortion isn't surprising.
Tillian's great - though had I not heard his live sets with DGD when he first joined, that opinion might have been way different, considering how overproduced his vocals are in this. But in the aforementioned livesets he belts high C's out the ass, so I imagine he can do this live - the notes that is.
| |
i hope that not all the songs on the cd are chorus driven .. this song fuckin rules though
| |
Ahh shit this rules.
| |
Doubt it Bilboran. Hard to top DBM and Happiness.
But it'll be damn good.
| |
been listening to this nonstop
| |
mix the guitar higher goddamnit
| |
The song ends where there should be a badass breakdown wtf
| |
hey trebor since when were you contrib?
| |
February 24th
| |
wow I never noticed, belated congrats
| |
damn right it is
| |
This song is awesome.
| |
I AM SO HAPPY
| |
jeez, i figured that since his voice sounds so different from johnny's on this song that the old stuff would sound different. Watching a live video of Lemon Meringue Tie, Tillians NAILS it
| |
OK this is gonna sound really weird but in this song Tilian totally sounds like Buster from Arthur
| |
is album is anything like song, it will be 4 - 4.5 worthy imo
| |
It's settled guys! This song is awesome and everybody loves Dance Gavin Dance. If you hate fun you hate this music.
| |
Jonny is and always will be my favorite but this band is just undeniably good with any singer.
| |
Jonny blows this guy's great
| |
Fantastic track.
| |
my god sputnik has too many kids these days. the overall average demo of this site has gone down a solid 5 yrs over the last 2-3
| |
I feel like tilian's voice contrasts nicely with mess's though
| |
His voice is annoyingly high-pitched, but the song is still pretty cool. I'm just trying to pretend this is a different band. It's impossible to live up to Jonny's vocals.
| |
jonny is way too overrated
| |
Tilian's one of my favourites, but I can see the argument that his voice doesn't fit the band style. I don't mind it much, but would love to have seen Geise do a record.
| |
oh. oh. so much better. officially excited.
| |
Didn't even realize they had a new clean vocalist. Regardless, I think his singing matches the rest of the band just fine. I personally found Jonny's voice to be a bit tedious and pretentious anyways.
| |
Jon Mess sounds awesome. Not sure how I feel about Tilian really. Can't say he ruins the song or anything but his vocals are mixed very oddly to say the least.
| |
never listened to these guys before, but the guitarist and harsh vocalist are going hard.
| |
mess sounds like a boss here
| |
"I personally found Jonny's voice to be a bit tedious and pretentious anyways."
a thousand times this. i could never really get into jonny. which is why my fav DGD albums are S-T and Happiness.
IMO anyway.
| |
new guy reminds me of ant green, though maybe thats because of the high pitch and chorus melody though
| |
how can a voice be pretentious
| |
o cool craig owens is fronting dgd now
just kidding stop comparing this guy to other guys. compare him to ladies. i would fuck tillians voice. it's really pretty and to me that's what matters most; balancing out mess' beautiful ugliness,
but mess doesn't sound like mess either. the instrumentation is SOLID dgd but with a new vocal approach it doesn't seem right to compare this to old shit. I do like this song a lot tho. i've listened to it 10 times today and that's more than ive collectively listened to any dbm2 song.
| |
It is a new approach, but I think you can still compare parts of this to songs that were on DBM, even.
It mostly sounds like two things to me, tighter production, and Mess has gotten a lot better at
screaming. His voice has never sounded better.
also "a thousand times this. i could never really get into jonny. which is why my fav DGD albums are
S-T and Happiness." [2]
| |
true, mess has definitely never sounded better
half the time on DBM2 he sounded like his throat was being cut or something
| |
"jeez, i figured that since his voice sounds so different from johnny's on this song that the old stuff would sound different. Watching a live video of Lemon Meringue Tie, Tillians NAILS it"
This is actually surprisingly true. All the live stuff with tilian rules pretty hard. Don't think these guys have ever come to my area but I'd love to see them with tilian, and I'm stoked for this album.
| |
Yeah I have to agree that Jonny is overrated. He can sing, but he couldn't write music for shit. I found his parts on DBM1+2 incredibly boring, lyrically and melodically, they were just dry and his voice was the only good part about them. Kurt and Tillian are much better for this band imo. Plus, Mess now seems to be a beast at screaming as well as writing lyrics and melodies like he was before. VERY pleased with this.
| |
yeah jonny on emarosa was horrible, it sounded like he was singing random notes most of the time
| |
Emarosa aren't bad at all but I feel like that's mostly thanks to the other members, not Jonny. And DGD are sooo much better off without him imo.
| |
relativity was aight, but as for the random singing I had their second album in mind
| |
Oh ok fair enough. It did get boring at parts I agree but A Toast to the Future Kids! was killer.
| |
DGD works so much better without Jonny, I agree. I also think it's where Jonny finds his best output, which is a shame because I wish he could find it elsewhere. But on DBM1 he was at his peak on almost every track, but he stole the show completely. In Kurt's era, the first album had him trying too hard to fit Jonny's shoes, but once he got comfortable with the band he made Happiness with them. And with Happiness Kurt just fit so much better with the band, playing along with them rather than just soaring over them the way Jonny did.
You can see it in DBM2, it just didn't work out that well. This sounds a lot like Kurt's best work, with Tilian taking the rest of the band into consideration with what he does, and it allows the talented instrumentalists to play a larger part than they ever did with Jonny as a front-man.
| |
To be honest, I liked Jonny more on DBMII than on DBMI. That album bores me to death to be perfectly straight, DBMII at least has some stylistic diversity to stay interesting. But regardless, I think the s/t crushes all, and I have very high hopes for this.
| |
DGD > DGD

Jonny is what sells me on DBM1 completely, and he just didn't do the same for me on DBM2. And although the rest of the band had improved with Happiness and what-not, they took a step back from that album when making DBM2, so I'm glad to see a new vocalist that will probably allow them to expand on the happiness sound even more.
| |
Yeah DBM2 was a step back from Happiness, not disagreeing there. I just like it more than DMB1. But agreed, this album should hopefully tread similar ground to Happiness, and the similarity of the album covers gives me hope that it will.
| |
Lol DBM2 is my least favorite. But I still love it
| |
Happiness is better,
Mess turned out beastly though. Loving it.
| |
Yeah it's been fun to see Mess progress.
| |
Interesting.
| |
Can't fucking stop listening to this, it's addicting as all hell.
| |
you cant say happiness is better when you've only heard 1 song, sorry
| |
been jamming this all day. definitely going to give some attention to downtown battle mountain later.
| |
5 SUPERHEROES
| |
feed into the miracle, don't be fucking cynical
| |
I listened to nothing but these guys in 10th grade. They're like that one band that played with a lot of scene bands but never exactly fit that mold.
| |
imagine if happiness had mess in it though
just think
| |
Loved all their full-lengths, can't seem to pick a favorite. I think this is definitely not as good as any previous ones.
| |
I dont like Tilian's vocals at all.
| |
reported
| |
Yeah I love this. New album will be amazing.
| |
anyone else just kinda playing tilians parts but with jonny's vocals in their heads?
No one is doing that.

Gay. Cleans are hopeless

cleans are great, i like them better than jonny. i actually hate jonnys vocals lol

well boys that's what happens when you fuck up your voice with drugs

No one is doing that.[2]

Mess always delivers the goods but The cleans are awful to me. Liked this dude on the Saosin demo though.
| |
This song has actually made me get into this band, digging Downtown II and Happiness!

anyone with this opinion is a terrible person
