Sounds like new fall out boy....gahdammit.
| |
yeah it does doesn't it. dang I like vices & virtues a lot too.
| |
"Sounds like new fall out boy....gahdammit."
I was thinking the same thing.
"I like vices & virtues a lot too."
me too. every song had a good hook and I can still replay some tunes like Trade Mistakes and I'm Ready to Go.
| |
I am for reeeeeelllll
| |
meh, nothing like Pretty Odd
| |
they've always sucked
| |
i dig it. it's no vices. those hooks were beautiful. but it's better then the new fob.
| |
Nobody else weirded out by the ritualistic hooker-killing video?
| |
and killing miss jackson
| |
This is good. It's harder the. vices and virtues but it doesn't make me any less anxious or interested!
| |
i dig it. it's no vices. those hooks were beautiful. but it's better then the new fob. [2]
| |
yea, i like this.
| |
"Nobody else weirded out by the ritualistic hooker-killing video?"
You aren't the only one. But they've always had a flair for drama in their videos.
| |
"Too Weird To Live, Too Rare to Die"
Sounds like the lyrics to a song by another band who released a single today...
Also, wow this really does sound like new fall out boy
(what's with his hair?)
| |
Well shit, I really loved Vices & Virtues.
| |
that was so borrrrrrring. what the fuck
| |
exactly like new fob...
| |
sounds like outkast
| |
Like a good version of new FOB.
| |
meh, i was actually excited when i saw this, not so much anymore.
| |
panic! does pop rock better then fob
| |
except that this sounds just like mainstream pop but 'heavier' and more 'dramatic'.
| |
"(what's with his hair?)"
it's thinning/receding
I meant the way he cut it. It looks really stupid.
I liked new FOB better than this
| |
It's just their personality and dramatic flair are better for pop.
| |
He's trying to look unique and stuff so he can stand out more imo, looks like the guy from Neon Trees
| |
yeah he aint trying to "stand out" he just wants to wear his wear different.
| |
...Wow, this does sound just like new FOB...
| |
a little disappointing but still not as bad as fall out boy's new stuff.
| |
Never really listened to these guys before, but that was NOT what I was expecting.
| |
Was a bit disbelieving of Calc's claim, but shit this could be played back to back with that FOB single and sound extremely similar.
| |
Smash bro, they usually sound nothing like this.
| |
i miss their more theatrical sound but the song was pretty good for what is. and i thought the video was awesome.
| |
damn what is this
| |
Such a letdown after vices and virtues
| |
The people saying this is better than new FOB... Could you make a little less sense, please? Why not just go all the way and start writing incomprehensible gibberish?
| |
So damn good.
| |
now that I've watched the video, it even resembles/carries the same vibe as the Fall Out Boy's leading single.
also, seems like Brandon is trying to make the word "goddamn" sound catchy again
| |
can everyone please stfu about fob sounding like patd
| |
Not sure if serious.
| |
serious
| |
It's true tho.
| |
panic at the disco never has nor will they ever sound like fall out boy
| |
Gyro listen to fob's my songs know what you did in the dark and then listen to this back to back.
I also have to disagree with you, when I listened to these guys on the radio I thought they were the same exact band.
| |
The song has the harder edge of some of the stuff off "Fever" mixed with the pop sound of "Vices." I like it quite a bit so far.
| |
Agreed hard.
| |
Yikes
| |
So disappointing.
| |
Gyromania, I know it's an old claim that they sound alike, and I agree they didn't sound like them in the past... But I mean right now. This song. This sounds like Save Rock N' Roll/current era FOB.
| |
I've never heard anyone say they sounded alike (prolly because they don't).
Then this happened.
| |
Panic! always sounded like they may be influenced by FOB but never actually sounded liked them. This, however, would fit right in on the newest FOB
| |
What the fuck is this shit? The last album was wicked....
| |
Ehhhh
| |
I always liked that Thompson quote, but now it feels...tainted.
| |
does sound a lot like light em up
i'll listen to the album, though i wasnt crazy about v and v
| |
yeah but even urie admitted that vices and virtues was uninspired, I know I'm alone here but pretty odd is still their best record
| |
I'm sorry, what? Urie "admitted" Vices and Virtues was "uninspired"? Source, please?
| |
Yeah, I definitely don't buy that. All I ever heard was how much they had to prove and how much passion went into it.
| |
as most people have said it sounds just like light em up. its probably worse though and thats saying something. im quite disappointed
| |
Don't like this much
| |
Thank God, right, andcas? I was beginning to worry it just looked like I was following you around like an asshole, stalking you to disagree with you on everything.
| |
I think the reason I think this is so bad is that the whole "Light Em Up" comparison is spot on. The vibe of the song is the same, the "woah-oh" is similar, christ even the music video feels similar. It's awful.
Panic's success has always surprised me. Their debut was strong and unique for what it was, and then they really shit the bed with Pretty Odd. Vices & Virtues was okay I guess, but it still felt...directionless? At least to me. Then I hear this shit and it's clear that this band has no identity whatsoever.
| |
wow people do not like prettyodd
| |
wtf is wrong with pretty. odd? i can't for the life of me wrap my mind around what's so bad about it. and please don't say it's because they're emulating the beatles because that is honestly the dumbest criticism ever
| |
Better than I thought it was going to be, but still not very good.
| |
They were aping the Beatles in a weak fashion. Most of the songs felt soul-less, because it was Beatles esque for the sake of being that way, it tried too hard.
Criticizing a band for trying to completely become another band is not a dumb criticism. You know, if you value things like having a smidge of creativity or originality.
| |
yeah pretty odd is pretty awesome. And it sounds way more like the zombies and the beach boys than the Beatles anyway.
| |
I mean panic was never all that creative anyways, they're fucking pop rock for god's sake. I think that radically shift in sound should have been celebrated and be an example for their obstinately static peers.
| |
i ask for criticisms not involving the beatles and what do i get? just that. god
they were never trying to 'become' the beatles. that is such a stupid fucking thing to say. they drew from a pretty broad palette of psych/classic rock progenitors to create something aesthetically different (you know, like most bands). i hate to be the one to break it to you, but all music is influenced in some way by older bands, and i don't see what the problem with them emulating their influences is. also, people need to get over this notion that taking influence from a band means they're tarnishing their artistic credibility or w/e, because that's patently false
| |
the prople saying that act as if the Beatles were the only ones to sound like that because try can't think of any other psychedelic pop band.
| |
it's also hilarious because they pull off that beatles-esque sound better than 90% of their contemporaries. let's face it, patd is one of those bands whose name is immediately recognizable, and in many social circles it's condemned because of stereotypes. i'd bet a pound to a penny that most of the hate directed towards them comes from people who have heard maybe 1 or 2 of their songs.
| |
has anyone heard Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground?
| |
This sucks, which is lame because pretty much everything else the band has been involved with has been at the very least somewhat good.
| |
If I wanted to hear the Beatles and, fine, other psychedelic pop bands... I'd listen to those psychedelic pop bands. I don't give a care if you think they "pulled it off".
Also, for a band that didn't just mainly want to be the Beatles, they sure did try hard enough, what with their choice of studio, that first single's music video, and which band I heard name dropped most in their interviews around the time.......
| |
And if you didn't want to hear pretty. odd. you could, you know, choose to play another band.
| |
Kay Kay is pretty cool, Calc. "I mean panic was never all that creative anyways, they're fucking pop rock for god's sake." Are you implying pop-rock can't be creative?
| |
Yeah, I always got the impression Ryan Ross was behind that. I feel like I've heard the remaining two band members outright state things about it.
| |
they didn't record in that studio because they wanted to be the beatles you ignorant twit. besides, they were influenced by a hell of a lot more than just the beatles. how familiar are you with '60s music?
| |
Pretty. Odd. Was much better than the young veins IMO.
| |
I CHIME IN
| |
Though I do agree that this sounds pretty on par with Fall Out Boy's new style I think this sounds more like it fits as a Panic! at The Disco song whereas My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark does not fit with Fall Out Boy.
Vices and Virtues followed by this seems like this would have been the inevitable direction of this band if Pretty. Odd. didn't happen.
And due to the timing of the release it's hard to tell if this song was inspired by Fall Out Boy as it is entirely possible that it was written before.
On a side note, though I am a fan of literary bands, I do not like the use of the Hunter Thompson quote. I feel his style of writing does not fit with this.
These are just first impressions though and I'll wait for the album to pass judgement.I'll wait for the album to judge
| |
Gyromania, you can thrash about all you want, but all you keep saying is "did not did not did not" and "Do you even know blah blah blah"... Yes, I know there were other bands in the Beatles genre. I've even, gasp, heard some of them. But... "The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour and David Bowie's Hunky Dory were constantly played during recording."
So, yeah, sorry, I hear a whole lot more Beatles than anything else. Sorry my opinion differs from you. I was just born a twit, I guess.
| |
I still dig the song though.
| |
Yeah, I can't help but enjoy the song, honestly.
| |
SO disappointing.
| |
i guess they got advised by FOB throughout this new album's production.
| |
also, pretty. odd. kicks ass, so stop denying it.
| |
Sorry, man. I dig some songs off of it, but it just never excited me.
Also, the new album is produced by the same guy who produced the last FOB album.
| |
Also, the new album is produced by the same guy who produced the last FOB album.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
| |
"do tell me what other bands sounds like a fever you can't sweat out at the time. they were pretty damn unique and creative on that album when around that time everyone else was playing it safe"
threads too long to read, but whatever fall out boy album was out at the time.
| |
Also, the new album is produced by the same guy who produced the last FOB album.
that sucks.
| |
also, pretty. odd isn't as bad as i remembered, but it's pretty bad. just one dude on the internets opinion.
| |
I enjoyed it. Of course, it could be because I actually like the new FOB album unlike most of you.
| |
so light em up
| |
If you play them on top of each other they have almost the exact same timing for the choruses and verses.
| |
