Small Talk is one of my favorite albums
RIP

holy shit no
RIP

was really shocked and sad when i heard this, but let's give it up: most artists in his vein fizzle
out early. this guy kept on rolling and released an album last year (consider that his first
album was released in 19-fucking-70. damn.); an album which not only was awesome but also gained him a
new audience and a bunch of acclaim and respect. not many artists can do something like that, and
while it's sad that he died, it's nice to see that he went out with a relative bang, artistic
integrity intact. RIP.
edit: sorry about the spacing. google chrome and all that.

only reason i know him is because of mbdtf but still he was probably great

You do realise that there was a 16 year gap between I'm New Here and his last album
|
| |
what difference does it make? replace "keep on rolling" with something that doesn't imply a lack of
gap? i don't see what you're contesting; my point is that the guy managed to keep going and released a
great, career-reviving album when the odds were completely against such a thing. and that's worth more
respect than i can give the guy

Your post seemed to indicate that he hadn't stopped since the 70's
|
| |
i don't think it did but you're just being typically pedantic to assert your superiority over me or
something either way and it's not like it really matters
|
| |
Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing.......
|
| |
i could cry now...RIP
|
| |
sorta did but who cares RIP great man

So sad. R.I.P.
|

Just heard that song on the radio, now I know why. RIP
|
| |
I hope him and Nujabes are chilling by the pool in heaven, sipping on delicious tropical drinks.
R.I.P, dude was an icon and will be sorely missed
|
| |
RIP, dude was amazing.
|
| |
I don't want to speculate (even though this is essentially what I'm doing) but the guy's had a long and well documented history with drugs. Not saying that he overdosed but maybe some complication bought on by years of substance abuse
Either way, gonna have to play some We're New Here tonight
|
| |
RIP

whoa thought this said mark heron. was about to cry.

well that's exactly what you're doing, either that or you're just being typically pedantic to assert your superiority over me
;)
|
| |
fuck this is devastating
RIP
|
| |
Loved him on all the rap albums he popped up on, from Kanye's latest, to The Low End Theory to Common albums.....the man was a hip-hop icon and he wasn't even a hip-hop artist. Respect.

I was kidding, did you not see the " ;) "?

tragedy. RIP

Darn you New York city.
|

Very sad indeed. I've always loved his 70's stuff and was blown away by the awesomeness of I'm New Here and Were New Here. Gil Scott-Heron is one of the founding fathers of rap and hip hop.

it seems every time theres a death news post, someone comes in and blames it on drugs. Way to be "that guy" deviant.
|
| |
What a beautiful, old soul this man had. I first heard of him, and had the pleasure and privelege of listening to "I'm New Here," early last year. This news is astonishingly sad, and it makes my heart hurt. Requiescat In Pace, Gil, from one kindred spirit to another. Thank you for the gift of your music. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Really sad news. Gonna spin I'm New Here right now.
RIP

judging by his horrible, phlegm-filled rasp on "I'm New Here", i'm not surprised

Playing We're New Here now, will have to look into some of his other stuff.

I'm seriously bummed about this...

"So glad he is dead."
You should prolly just try to find something better to do, trolling lowers your sperm count

this is not cool R.I.P.

Gil-Scott Heron, I raise this bogey for you. Truly a loss...
|
| |
Oh right, forgot my original purpose for comin' around these parts...Rest/Rock in Peace brotha, hopefully he found piece from whatever demons he had
|

"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" -- one of the most important compositions of last century.
Sad news.
|
| |
Gil Scott Heron isn't dead cause I just saw him at the Krispy Kreme
