Catholic priests are routinely called pastors...the term Father is typically used in both Catholic and Protestant denominations. For these purposes, they would be pretty much the same thing.

So even if that isn't really valid, Fred still conveniently tries to pigeonhole only Catholic priests as having these scandals. Yet there ARE priests in other denominations...if indeed priests rape boys, then clearly other Christian denominations with priests (as you define them) would have corrupt priests as well. Thus, his own logic debunks itself. I could even extend my statement to show that Fred says his own priests (not "pastors" in this case, of course) are also corrupt.

Also organized religion has lead to many bad things but in order to be fair i think you have to admit it has done alot of good as well.

It is true that Priests are not uncommonly referred to as Pastors, but Protestant Pastors are not "typically" called father. You (jybt) may be confusing the fact that Lutherans frequently include Bishops, Deacons, Priests, etc. But that is not typical of Protestantism, something vastly different from a single denomination. It must also be pointed out that Anglicanism includes Bishops, Deacons, etc. but is neither Catholic or Protestant. Eastern Orthodox as well includes these figures.

Regardless the WBC is clearly identifying itself as baptist, ie. they do not view themselves (Pastors) as Priests. So regardless of how you interpret the duties it doesn't matter, because as he said and understood the differences it made perfect sense. Again regardless there are very different sanctions, duties, belief structures, etc. between most Protestant Pastors and Catholic Priests. For instance, Catholic Priests can't marry, Protestant Pastors can, Catholic Priests need to be officially recognized, Protestant Pastors don't (ie. Fred Phelps), CP - Confession, PP - Nope, CC - Apostolic Succession, PP - Nope. Get the point? They are COMPLETELY different, and as such it is understood that when a Protestant starts bashing Priests, he is bashing non-Protestant, likely Catholic, Priests because of the conflicting ideologies which cause for different problems. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying Protestantism doesn't have problems with Pastors, or even volunteers in various church's for that matter, but that isn't what he was getting at, everyone knows that, and it goes without saying.

You're simply just trying to pin even more shit onto the man, which frankly doesn't need to be there for two reasons, 1. There is enough legit stuff to last multiple lifetimes criticizing him for, and 2. It isn't one of those legitimate things because it is understood what he was saying.
