It doesn't seem to me that he's trying to be funny - I get the impression that he's genuinely messed up about it. I know he's dressed as a clown, but that just seems a way to deliberately make fun of how pathetic the situation is - as if he's comparing the notion of a clown to that of a punk and displaying how tragic/ridiculous it all is.

When he's telling the story he's utterly deadpan; I don't think he could act that, it's too serious. And when the audience shout 'fuck that shit' it sounds like at least some of them are referring to the girl, as if they think the rape was cool. That might be me reading it wrong, but if I'm right then they deserved what they got.

I agree that his career isn't a redeeming factor for anything, but if he is actually as remorseful as he sounds then I pity him. And I do think that laughing about dark stuff is in some way acceptable - I laugh about awful things that I've experienced and those close to me have; it's just a way of dealing with life.
