Mercury Prize Nominations 2009-07-21 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 9 Comments | The shortlist for the 2009 Barclaycard Mercury Prize have been announced, with Florence & The Machine and Kasabian the early favourites to take home the gong.
The nominees for the award, which honours the best album produced in Britain and Ireland during the previous twelve months, were announced this morning (July 21) by radio DJ/ex-Kernicke frontwoman Lauren Laverne.
Both Florence & The Machine's Lungs and Kasabian's West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum were quoted prices of 5/1, with Glasvegas's debut self-titled and Bat For Lashes's Two Suns close behind at 6/1.

Everyone else on here is either mediocre or horrible, with the exception of Bat For Lashes which just doesn't sit well with me. Kasabian's new record is so so boring.
