I am not really expecting that much from the new album, though one must give it a chance I guess.

Not as bad as I thought and DEFINITELY not as bad as everyone's trying to make it out to be.

It really is though. Nearly everything within the songs is extremely predictable, the songs are all overly repetitive, the lyrics pretty much suck...and Rolling Stone gave this a 4.5 out of 5...what is the world coming to...

This hurts the thirteen year old in my soul. I turned it off at "all the white boys, and the black girls..."

Lyrics are god-awful and everything is predictable/cliched.

Trouble is half the teenies that listen to it will think it's original siiiigh.

Actually not bad stuff. I really do like Before the Lobotomy.

Before the Lobotomy was okay, it was at least more interesting than everything else. Overall, very lacklustre and boring. I actually liked a good chunk of American Idiot, but this isn't very promising.

It seems as if Billy Joe finally lost his knack for writing good pop melodies. Look at "Warning" and "American Idiot" and even as early as "Dookie" all 3 of these albums are fantastic pop albums. But alas! it seems as if Green Day is finally circling the drain

Hated it, I love how Billy Joe tries to explain the composition as if Yo-Yo Ma wrote it (Before The Lobotomy). Of course it is just a bunch of power chords all over again

They were okay. Certainly nothing groundbreaking for their career, but decent. Know Your Enemy was pretty underwhelming, but lead singles generally are anyway. What we get here shows that the album will probably be good but not great.

As for Sputnik putting the music down, you underestimate this community. When they've decided to hate a band, they work their asses off to maintain their boners of indignant fury. Some of these guys hate Green Day even more than I hate Metallica, if that's conceivable.

They actually seem to have gone with the plan of "American Idiot 2" but poorer than the original.

marksellsuswallets, what else do you expect from a shitty zine like Rolling Stone? They know fuck all when it comes to music. I've always liked Green Day but I do not have high hopes for this...I heard the first single off this and I cringed all the way through..fuck, I don't even think I got through the entire thing, come to think of it. Hopefully the rest of the album won't be that bad, I haven't checked these new songs out yet, but if the rest of the album sounds as bad as that first single.. ugh, Green Day, what happened to you?

That's because it largely was. Like I said, the first three songs were actually pretty decent and I think I could like them, particularly Before The Labotomy and 21 Guns. But the rest were boring - and I'm looking directly at the title track as the main culprit. Since when do you name an album after one of the most boring songs you've ever written?

Douchebag
May 6th 2009
3626 Comments

But thats the thing. Green Day have always been about 3 chords, some bass and some drums. These songs have orchastral arrangements, beautiful piano work and even key changes and mild (I use the term loosely) Progressive elements, particularly the soft loud dynamic. I dunno how you can call these songs boring when they bounce and change as frequently as they do...

These are only a few tracks out of an eighteen track concept album- however it's rather good when placed in the context already known of the album.
