i have no idea why i wrote "canadian stand-outs", i would have put "alt-pop-post-hardcore wankers" alexisonfire but i was afraid that might look weird.
|

Sooo is it like...Alex is On Fire? or Alexis On Fire? amirite?
|
| |
Are you right? What? You gave two possible answers. It's Alexis-on-fire.

Excellent, really looking forward to this.

what a truly horrible genre. Their 2007 album was ok, but Metalcore sucks, so meh!
|
| |
luckily they aren't metalcore then
|
| |
They are in fact
alt-pop-post-hardcore wankers
|
| |
I wish they would go back to the style on their debut, it was by far their best work.
|
| |
watch out! > s/t = crisis
|
| |
alexisonfire kicks pootie tang
|
| |
Yes YEs And did i mention Yes!!
|
| |
pretty good band, should be a solid cd
|
| |
If it's better than Crisis, I will genuinely jizz in my pants
Srsly
|
| |
It makes me sad that i'm not excited for this.
|
| |
This is awesome news.
If they go back to the style of "Watch Out!" or S/T I will creammmm.
However if they continue "Crisis" styley then it could be bad.
|
| |
They are totally the best band to represent their genre of music though. AOF brings a certain intensity to what they do. And they're actually funny and decent ppl ie. they're not full of themselves (except for Dallas lol)

Damn, i just shit out another alexisonfire album.
happens all the time
the closest alexisonfire has gotten to guttural is in my stomach.
|
| |
thanks samwyze55, yeah, they are, even though everyone shits on em now because they've "changed styles" but i will always love em. same with alexis, and they don't try to be guttural. It's not about heaviness or technicality, it's the emotions portrayed in the songs and the amazingness of the vocals.
|
| |
TOMORROOOOOOOOOOOW!

i like alexis but lol
there are much much better post-hardcore bands
|
| |
im excited for this but i'm not rly sure what to expect. considering their tendency to get less technical and more radio-friendly with each release, i'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be boring radio-rock... although i doubt it will.
|
| |
I used to like this band.
Now the only song of their's I can stand is Rough Hands. I honestly don't care.
|
| |
Dallas says that this album will be much more "heavy, in the atmospheric sense." Which sounds a lot like Watch Out, rather than Crisis.
So BLAM. I'm stoked.
|
| |
Yeah it does, but considering they want to "put the knife in screamo" and George's voice is probably fucked, I have no clue what they will do.
|
| |
I interpreted that as 'revitalizing the genre.' Considering Alexisonfire is the only band I can tolerate that is continually classified as 'screamo,' I wouldn't mind them sneaking out of that subgenre.
|
| |
But they're not screamo.
|
| |
Am I the only one who thinks Crisis is a million times better than their first two albums
|
| |
Sometimes I prefer Crisis - I think it has better staying power anyway. If I listen to the first two too much I get bored.
|
| |
Watch Out plays wth dynamic and atmosphere a lot better, I think.
|
| |
^^ this.
But then, Crisis has some of their best songs on there.. (We Are The Sound, Boiled Frogs, To A Friend..)
So it's hard. And then, the S/T is so much more..raw than the others.
|
| |
Would you mind enlightening me to the "much much better post-hardcore bands" gaslightanthem because I've been mostly disappointed with what I've heard coming from other bands in this genre. Remember how I said I liked the intensity coming from Alexisonfire?...
I like all three albums and I don't hold their change of sound against them...all bands change, its a fact. and the way that AOF is genuinely trying not to sell out to the pop genre makes me happy. i meet a lot of ppl who hate "screamy" music - who like AOF. they're changing but they're also incorperating their original style.
every album of theirs is different, i imagine that this one will be as well =D - YES to songs from Crisis btw (song Crisis is solid)

thrice
glassjaw
trophy scars
at the drive-in
thursday
in pieces
the blood brothers
unwound
All post-hardcore all better than Alexis. I could go on.
|
| |
I agree with thrice, glassjaw, atdi and thursday (possibly) but blood brothers definitely not, as much as i like them...
I need to listen to the other three. But even then none of those bands (that i've heard) sound remotely like Alexis.
Maybe it's a subjective thing. But those three, when they all like pitch in and bounce off another, it's freakin awesome.
|

thrice
glassjaw
trophy scars
at the drive-in
thursday
in pieces
the blood brothers
unwound
but Alexisonfire sounds completely different then most of those bands. I can't fucking wait for this
|
| |
Hello idiot, he never said that they sound the same - he said they're both part of the same genre which technically they are. It's all post-hardcore buddy.
|
| |
who are you to call him an idiot?
anyway, pretty excited for this
|
| |
k, but saying you would rather listen to this band over this one based on genre alone is stupid, especially when they sound very different to eachother
|
| |
Having read through this entire thread you are once again putting words in his mouth. He never said he would rather listen to one band over another at all. He merely disagreed that Alexisonfire are the best representation of the genre before going on to say there are better bands which he then listed. Whether they sound similar to other bands within the genre is moot.
|
| |
All the bands you named are lovely, yes.
But Alexisonfire sounds nothing like any of them -- and I don't care if they're in the same 'subgenre,' they don't sound alike. Perhaps they'd be better off with a different subgenre.
Best thing that Alexisonfire has? Three strong, distinct vocalists. So many opportunities.
|
| |
They all sound different to one another. You could throw in The Fall of Troy as well - another post-hardcore band that sounds different from the others. What you're saying is because they all have their own unique take you think we should give them all their own personalised subgenres. Don't be so ignorant.
|
| |
Well, yeah. But saying "Well, Thrice is WAY better than Alexisonfire" is ignorant too. Yeah, Underoath is WAY better than Between the Buried and Me. Right...
Point is, I don't think they need their own subgenre. I think they don't need to be compared to other bands in their 'genre.'
|
| |
ok, i see what you mean...makes sense. I agree to some degree. Thrice IS a rock-solid band, I guess I was picturing a comparison between bands that sounded similar - haha you really picked some bad comparisons...but yes technically on some level thrice falls into the same genre. Trophy scars are not part of their genre, and I couldn't care less for thursday's singer...I'm not a huge fan. but that's beside the point. I still like the energy AOF has captured and I hope they bring that to the table this time around =D
|
| |
Eeurgh this is the last time I'm going to reply itt. I wasn't making comparisons of who sound just like Alexis I was pointing out other bands within the genre that I'm sure many others beyond myself would agree are better & more accomplished bands than Alexisonfire. All I said to begin with are AOF wouldn't be the best band to represent the genre. That is all.
|
| |
controversy
|
| |
Doesnt matter if a band is accomplished, they can still be an amazing band. take Attack In Black for example - one of the greatest bands ever in my opinion. Hardly anyone knows about them, but their music is well crafted and has a timeless quality. Sure, i messed up by saying AOF is the best of their genre since the boundaries of a genre are such a debateable thing. but there is no question in my mind that AOF are a solid band. How about I say - I'm frustrated at many of the flaws in post-hardcore music and I feel that AOF has been able to bring it all under control maybe even bridge the gap in some respects.

I can totally agree with that.
kane you start some stupid fucking arguments. your opinion isn't fact just shut the hell up for once.
Ouch. That cut deep.
|

That entire argument was retarded.
|

Ya, I know I go over the top sometimes and try and act like some fucking elitist . I'll stop. Kiss & make up?

(I just wanna dance next to you)
To another time and place.
I got your back now baby ;)

baaahaahaha - mynameischan - The Tic - cracks me up
bands are better than each other and we need to weed out the ones that suck and praise the ones who are amazing... =P ahahahahahahahahaha
-sarcasm at its finest
but seriously check out the blog, Dallas has a solo video and Steele is a natural comedian.
