Grammy Honour For Bowie

2006-01-22 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 6 Comments
A whole host of artists are to be honoured at the 2006 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California. Heading the list of honourees is David Bowie, while Cream, Merle Haggard and recently deceased comedian Richard Pryor will be honoured. Also to be presented with a posthumous award is legendary delta blues artist Robert Johnson.

The achievement awards and tributes will be presented during a ceremony on February 7, and will be recognised at the ceremony the next day. The Grammys will take place in Los Angeles' Staples Centre on February 8 and will be broadcast in the US through CBS from 8-11.30pm.

What do they mean by "honoured"? Is this one of those lifetime achievement awards, or does he just get a video clip shown? Good for him, I suppose, at least it isn't a birthday award like Michael Jackson won a few years ago.
David Bowie sucks now.

About time they honoured Bowie (READ MY LOW REVIEW)

But why are they honouring a comedian at a music show? These Grammy judges get wackier every year. This Message Edited On 01.23.06

Yeah the Pryor thing seemed like an odd addition. I know he acted, but as far as I know he has (had) no musical background.

Gongs it is.

And Low is a brilliant album. Most things in the 70s were. It's just everything past then that I cannot stand. This Message Edited On 01.24.06

Good point, and now that I think of it they do have a "best comedy/spoken word album" category or something like that.

Morrissey, have you heard "Heathen" (Bowie 2001)?
How 'bout The Killers "Hot Fuss"?

I'm totally with you on there being a definate decline in music since the 70's; but an outright "David Bowie sucks now." is hurtfull.

I've heard a few songs, but it is lightyears away from his 70s material. Knowing what he is capable of, in contrast most of his material from the past 20 years is sorely disappointing.
And I have heard Hot Fuss and like it, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the topic at hand.
